I purchased my M&P .45 on 5-15-10. The pistol has been fantastic! I had 400 rounds of mixed ammo through it. And had found nothing to criticize or truly question or dislike. It had won my trust in one fail swoop.
So late last week I decided to take the .45 with me on a overnight road trip for work. I strongly dislike the city I'm having to go to. It has been a very racist and dangerous city for many years. And I was going to be right in the heart of downtown.
Sure enough it went south. I was less than a mile from my hotel stopped at a red light when I got bum rushed. He came out of nowhere land. With two others in tow. I had the windows down with the tunes cranked. As he came up I hear him yelling something money and car. Well he was getting neither. I reached for the .45 and drew it. I'll be darned it the pistol spun in my hand like one of those noise makers. This has never happened. It was like I could not get a grip on it. I think I stuck the beaver tail just below the web in my hand. After the one spin it went into battery in my hand. And the three bad men left from where they came from. I had to address this issue!
Yesterday I went to the range. Took the M&P .45 and the CZ-52. After 50 rounds the trigger got gritty on the M&P. I figured it had got some grit blow in it or something.
When I got home I broke her down for a clean up and inspection as always. I found nothing. So you know what happened next.
I put a trigger job on it. That fixed that issue. And it has a nice trigger now. At 4lbs. It now has a better break and reset with a shorten engaged pull. Took very little off the sear and polished everything else up. I was quite happy with it until the grit started up.
I then set out to polish the feed ramp and the external chamber area. The slide had already removed a lot of finish. The "45 AUTO" looked real bad. I then took some 0000 steel wool to the slide. Man did that clean up the slide. It's like the slide was covered with a very fine black oxide that did not belong. A few swipes with the steel wool and it looked great!
I had to address the control issue. I did not want a slip on. And honestly I really did not want to cut on the beaver tail quite yet. This left me with grip tape and stippling. I really wanted the grip tape. But I could not make my hand like it. So that left the stippling. Out came the iron and she now wears shark skin. I normally am not a fan of the stipple. But man o man did it work out this time.
I then filled the M&P 45 with white paint.
I took the pistol out today and we did great!
