Default Magazine and spring

I have a question for you experience M&P'ers. I recently purchased a "used" 40c at a gun show a couple of months ago. In my opinion, it was in very good out-of-the-box condition. It came in the box with lock, grips and the requisite two mags, one with finger ext and the other w/o, which I've been able to remedy by calling S&W.

I use this pistol as my full time CCW and I also carry my extra mag, loaded with 10 rds. I get to the range about once or twice a month, but other than that, the gun is loaded with 10/1 rds and the mag stays loaded with 10 rds.

Here are my questions:
1. Will the mag springs "wear out" while being compressed for extended periods of time?
2. Should they be periodically replaced?
3. Will I know they will need replacement if I begin to see FTF's/FTE's?

1. No more than any other use
2. 5 yr/ 5,00 rounds, whichever first Suggest S&W springs.
3. More likely they need cleaning; should be kept clean, like the rest of the gun.

Springs wear out more to cycles than compression, but they're cheap enough that you should replace them on a regular basis. About the only other thing that can go wrong with a mag is getting the feedlips bent, which is unlikely, they don't really wear out.

Springs wear out due to cycling, not static compression/extension, and normally they'll outlast you. Sometimes a manufacturer will compromise on spring design to achieve a result (such as a compact or high capacity 1911) and it may shorten spring life. I wouldn't replace springs unless the manufacturer recommends it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

As for the claims from the aftermarket spring manufacturers, remember that most fishing lures are designed to catch fishermen, not fish.
