Shooting today and the white dot fell off my back (right) sight.

Next steps? Will S&W help me out? The gun is only about 9 months old and only around 500 rounds through it.
If they won't help, anyone have suggestions on a type of paint I can use to replace the dot until I get some new sights purchased?

On that note, any suggestions for some sub-$100 sights that will work in a regular holster?

Lol, the white dot fell off my front sight 2 weeks ago. I need to repaint it too so I am curious as to what I should use also.

Use enamel paint. Just a jar of gloss white and small brush. Testors enamel will do. Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, Micheal's Crafts or any Mom and Pop hobby or hardware store will have it.

That is what I use when I refinish firearms with fixed 3 dot sights.

Just degrease the sight with acetone, rubbing alcohol or thinner. Let dry, touch it up.

Do all 3 while you are at it. I like using gloss white, because in sunlight they are easier to pick up and in the case of the front sight, the carbon deposited there by the muzzle blast wipes off easier than the flat white.


As for sights, I'm fond of the 10-8 Performance rear-no dots-and a tritium front.

Buy some touch up white appliance paint in small bottle from home improvement store(Lowe's, Home Depot) and use toothpick to apply in area needed. I had a bad painted front site that was not painted evenly on one side, and this did the trick. Appliance paint will adhere to the metal better and hold up better when cleaning solvents are used on the slide. Good luck, zorro. Link to rust-o-leum brand which is what I used.

Just use whiteout. Happened to me twice. Whiteout works well.

This is an annoying yet common problem. On mine I cleaned it with alcohol. Then I used Testors paint and a toothpick, putting the paint down in layers and letting it dry before adding the next.

I've not tried this but I saw it recommended on another M&P forum...

When the white dot from my front sight fell off a while back, I decided to make my own high viz photoluminescent paint. worked fantastic. much brighter than the commercially available stuff and I sold most of what I had left over so it didn't really cost me anything but the time spent on it.

UPDATE: Called S&W Customer Service this morning. They're sending me a new back sight, no questions asked. No charge. Just asked me for my address and said it'll be on its way this afternoon.
GREAT customer service.

I still plan on getting some night sights, but this replacement will work until then.

Good to see I'm not the only one with this issue. Actually, that's bad to see, but at least I'm not alone.

just got back from range and my front white dot fell off... damn!! gun hasnt even had 600rnds through it yet... guess i gotta call S&W..... still love my M&P 9c!!

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Lost the paint on my front sight.

Same here...front sight dot fell out of my full-size M&P 40 today at the range.Will fix myself,not worth the hassle to install another sight from S&W that may do the same thing.My pistol has about 500 rounds through it,seems to be about the life expectancy of these things.
