Short report:
The handgun was flawless, 100 rounds fired with no jams or any problems what so ever.
My previous experiences with M&P's has been with my sons 9mm compact with an Apex trigger kit installed, and a full size 9mm that we rented from a local range. This was my first experience with a .40 of any kind.
My son's trigger effort, by my best recollection, isn't much if any less than on mine but I'm pretty sure it is smoother and doesn't have as much "travel" for lack of better words on my part. I seem to have to pull the trigger further before it fires. On the other hand, the effort on the full size rental was MUCH heavier than mine is. The folks at the gun store where I bought mine told me that it's not unusual for ranges to install stiffer springs in rental guns in an effort to make them safer. Makes sense I suppose...
The .40 surprised me honestly. Being a complete noob to the sport of shooting all I can do is try and relate to what I've read. I.E. the .40 bridges the gap between a 9mm and .45, which I can now totally relate to. The .40 is, ahhh... more of a handful to shoot than my son's 9mm, but doesn't have quite as much recoil as my fathers model 1911 Colt that I have. Funny thing is, I believe I'm more accurate with the 1911 at this point than I am with either of the M&P's. But honestly I don't have enough experience with any of them to feel comfortable making more than a casual observation.
THAT however, is about to change...
And at this point I have to say I'm extremely pleased with my choice of the M&P and going with a .40 caliber. I see lots of spent rounds in my future!
