New M&P9 Carry & Range Kit
I recently purchased this for my 13yr old daughter. She had wanted a bigger pistol and we looked around and came to a conclusion a synthetic frame was the way to go because of the weight. We got the gun ready for her to shoot, changed palm swell, cleaned, and waited for a chance to go to the range. I went to the range yesterday alone with several pistols and tried it out. I am very impressed!!! The gun is accurate and a pleasure to shoot. No problems at all. With 3 17rd magazines and a speedloader, I went through 250 rds quickly, leaving me wanting more ammo...lol. With everything that comes in this kit...holster, mag pouch, 3 mags, speedloader, she can grow with it and hopefully have it for a lifetime. She is away visiting relatives and I told her about it, she can't wait to try it out this weekend. Her other pistol is a Walther P22 with a laser, unfortunatly, the laser does not fit the M&P. She is also a junior member of the NRA.

ok
Ok thanks I probably still ask but I will probably just go with the gun I am looking at. Its a M&P 9 with thumb safety, 3 mags, and night sights. I already got the speed loader and some good ear plugs. I don't have my permit yet so the hostler won't matter to much yet.

That's a great price! I went to my local gunshop today and had a look and they wanted $592 dollars just for the gun alone... It's kinda funny about 3 weeks ago the same gun was $550. ( I heard the MSRP dropped 50 dollars on the S&W website! a while back)
I kinda feel they increased the price trying to take advantage of some hunters... it's almost the end of deer season here in SC... I believe it ends on Monday. I pretty much have it narrowed down to the M&P 9. I'm just waiting on a good price to come my way (my bait store told me a month ago he could get my gun for around 480 + 10% and 15 FFL fee) .
If the gun I went and looked at today was 500ish I would have bought it today... I kind of want the range kit but we shall see... this is what my problem is... My LGS is way overpriced... they take advantage of the people that shoot there with higher prices... Don't get me wrong I much rather support a local gun store instead of buying it offline... mainly because I can hold and see what I am buying among other reasons... I buy offline purely because it's cheaper!
I was kinda worried that the range kit would come with the "older" Novak sights smaller sear etc etc... but after seeing your pictures this is what I want! Congrats! after reading a few other posts here... guns that you get now will most likely have the upgraded parts...(manufactured after October 2010) I heard the boxes are blue?! I see yours is black? Congrats on a great looking gun! I'm sure your daughter will love it!
is this the gun you got? SKU: 209301... Link is below
Product: Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm - No Thumb Safety

My SKU is 209331.....but I believe it is the same pistol you mention above, no safety and is capable of firing with the magazine removed.

yeah it is the same gun... I just got off the phone with my local bait store who also sells guns and he's trying to get one in for me... It's on back order. I saw that Buds had it for $512 and they were in stock. My bait store is going to charge me $507 without a FFL fee... if I get it through them. I much rather help my local shop because I'm not in that big of a rush to get it... as long as it doesn't take months to get!
I'll give them a month and hopefully they can get one in! If not hopefully bud's still has them for a great price!

My daughter and I just got back from the range. Her first time with a non 22 pistol.......she loves this pistol!!!!! She did better than we both expected and she said the recoil was not that bad for her. It's her new favorite gun!!! All I can say is "great job" S&W. I'm probably going to buy the 40 range kit now for myself.

How does the 9 kick compared to the .40? My daughter (14) can fire my .357 revolver loaded with some lighter .38's just fine except the grips are so big for her. She likes the feel of my M&P with the smaller grips but I think the .40 may turn her off..... This could be a very good reason to get a new 9

So I just ordered the 9mm range kit! This will be my first gun! I'm pretty excited! I got it from bud's since none of my local shops could get a hold of it. 3-7 business days!
psquarejr... how fast did Bud's deliver? were you pleased? What ammo did you feed it? Defensive rounds and plinking rounds?

thanks! I plan on taking the Concealed Weapons Permit class in about a month or so. It can take up to 3 months after turning in all my information to get my permit, I figure that will give me some time to practice shooting my s&w 9mm... and save up some money for the compact 9mm or compact .45...
I seriously want about 4-5 S&W guns. I'm getting a 9mm... I also want a compact 9mm or .45... a full-sized .45 and a revolver for the nightstand. I have a feeling when I get this gun... it's going to go everywhere with me! I plan on shooting around 200 rounds soon after I get the gun and then I plan on getting 1,000 rounds after I find what I like to shoot! I can't wait!

Congrats nate20nc!!!
I ordered my 9mm kit on a Sat. night and it was at my FFL on Thursday. I am very pleased with Bud's.
We fed the pistol 115 gr. Winchester FMJ.
I love the gun so much I ordered the 40 kit for myself.
Post when you get your gun and let us know how you like it.

Is that a reloader in the bottom right? It came with it too? If it is, S&W has gotten smart as far as what the women's market is demanding.

I picked up my gun yesterday! I love it! I cleaned it last night and loaded it. I Haven't shot it yet. I have about 200 rounds... Mostly FMJ (Federal -10 bucks per at walmart)... for practice. I bought one case JHP (Winchester white box). I was going to shoot it today but my range is getting renovated, I'm going to another range this weekend! I'll let you know how it shoots! Did your kit have ear plugs? I noticed on the item description it said it was included but when I got mine home I noticed there were not there... I did see on Bud's that accessories are sometimes shipped separately... was that the case for you?

No earplugs in either of the range kits I received. I did get the 40 range kit for myself. Havn't shot the 40 yet, but will the next time we go to the range. As soon as I get a chance I'll post pics of my daughter's targets from her first time shooting her 9. As I said before, she loves shooting her 9 and now wants to try my 40.....lol.

Oh okay I was wondering what was up with that, I wasn't that worried about it. I've shot about 200-250 rounds out of my 9 so far. I love it! My aim is getting better each time I go and shoot. I haven't had a chance to go to a range and really test how I shoot as I've been shooting with a buddy in his backyard at two liters, milk jugs, veggie cans, and soda cans. Basically anything I can shoot at! I may put another 150 rounds through her today so I'll let it you know how it goes if I decide to go.
Funny story... this is my first gun purchase... I thought my take down lever was broke or damaged at first! my first couple field strips, when I was putting the slide back onto the frame I never had to hold the takedown lever forward... but after some shooting it would move and I was unable to get the slide back on as easy... I was freaking out! after some frantic searching on youtube I noticed people holding it forward and I felt better. I was thinking I was going to have to send it back!

I just ordered the M&P40 kit from the local gun shop. I hope he is able to find one for me. I called Gander Mt and they don't have any in any of their stores. I called Sheels and they aren't gonna carry them. My local GS said he would call when one comes in. I'll check back next week. He quoted me $500 so I put $100 down on the order and figured that was a fair price.

I got sick the weekend I was going to take it out. So went today Fired 300 rounds in it I love this thing. I am maybe getting another one in a 40. This isn't a carry gun for me but after shooting it. I am going to go look at the compact one and see how it feels compared to my Glocks

Yeah I went out today and shot a little over 100 rounds. I LOVE THIS gun! I would recommend this range kit to any first time gun buyers! It's perfect! This visit was the official range visit as the others were just me shooting in a backyard. I'm going to start another thread with the range report. I love how the mag loader cuts down range time big time! I feel bad seeing those poor guys doing it by hand! Nothing against those guys that do! I can load them by hand I just prefer to do it faster!
You got a nice looking gun there Brent!

Check out Budsgunshop.com... If your LGS can't get it. I had actually tried to get it from two different locations and they couldn't get it (they still haven't called me to tell me they could get it!) 500 is a good price mine was 507 plus a transfer fee... You can get around that transfer fee if you get it locally! It's a pretty good deal for all you get... I had one LGS tell me that they could sell me the gun plus night sights and 2 extra mags for around 575... I wanted the box and the mag loader and the ear plugs... I got the kit minus the ear plugs.

Nice looking gun Brent, any pics of it out of the holster, I havn't seen one in that color yet. I prefer the black color, but you still have a cool looking pistol and you got earplugs...lol. Here are some pics of the 9 and my 40. The 9 is on the left and top.

And here are some pics of the targets from my daughter's first time shooting the 9 or anything bigger than a 22LR. First pic is her first two targets. All 3 mags used on each target, 51 rounds at 25 feet per target. The one on the left is her first target, you can see how she gets progressivly better and the last pic she called her last 3 rounds were to be head shots. I think she did great!!!

I can't find these kits in stock ANYWHERE!! Does anyone know where I can find a 9mm R/C Kit? I've checked every online dealer I could find, the big box stores, and the locals. I've come up with nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

One LGS said about a month ago that they could get one for about $550. No other LGS I contacted could even find them. I ended up buying the basic kit and adding an Uplula separately. I still spent less than the quote for the kit, although I don't have the extra mag.

Yep, I have both the 9mm and .40 on my wish list waiting for an email when they come in. I also signed up for a few other e-mail waiting lists on other sites.

I called S&W because we still can't get one. S&W only sent out a limited number and more won't be available till sometime in March....Bud's is sold out too! My LGS will provide one when Smith makes more available to the market.

Ok, since Friday AM I've watched the .40 cal kit go in and out of stock at Bud's at least a half dozen times. The 9mm is still showing out of stock. My LGS suggested that it was likely Blade-Tech that was causing the slowdown with the holsters and/or mag pouches. Correct me if I'm wrong though, aren't the external dimensions of the .40 and the 9mm identical? I thought it was just a different barrel? Do I need to sacrifice a unicorn to get the damn 9mm kit!??!

I just talked with the person who handles special orders for the local Cabelas. She contacted S&W today and they haven't even started production on the guns/kits this year and won't be starting until the end of March. She said 3-4 months until they would get it in stock. What a buzzkill!

I don't know if anyone is still interested, but I have an update from S&W. There are currently about 400 outstanding orders for the kits which they estimate will be fulfilled by the first week in April. However, this doesn't include any other orders that come in after today. He said the best course of action is to place an order with a dealer and get in line. Since no online dealers (with the best/lowest prices) do this, I guess I'm heading to my LGS. It will cost an extra $50+ just to make sure I get one. Sheesh.

I guess I'm happy I didn't procrastinate like I usually do, I'm cheap, found Bud's with the best prices at the time and guess I got lucky picking up the 40 after liking the 9. My only opinion is if you can wait, maybe an online dealer will get a few in stock at the beginning of April and you can maybe save a few bucks, if not, then go order one at the LGS.

My LGS has me on the waiting list. They ordered a bunch in Dec. and I'm #2 on the list. Price is $569, which is only about $20 more than Buds with the FFL fee. I'm just happy knowing I'm in line!

Well thanks to this thread, I'm a proud owner of the M&P 40 Range kit. I was in the market for a .40 and after looking around at various places, low and behold my LGS that I frequent often, had one left for $509! He wanted $479 for a regular .40, so for $30 extra, I get an extra mag, holster, mag holster and an Uplula. Now that's worth an extra $30!
Guess what I'll be doing this weekend; thanks guys!
