Arrow M&P 9 Green lasers? Suggestions? ***My First handgun****

I just got my first handgun yesterday, a used S&W M&P 9. I got it from Gander Mountain used(9/10) for $429.99 with case and 3, 17 round mags. Seem like a good deal? Anything special I should know about this gun?

I am looking at lasers for my gun and I have 3 in mind. I was hoping for some pros/cons and maybe some pics from some of you guys! Are there any others I should check out?

Lasermax UNI-Green($289.99) Uni Green Laser Sight Green Laser Gun Sight

Beamshot 8800S ($325) https://www.renutechsolutions.com/pr...erlight-combo/

Lasermax Guide-rod ($399?) Guide Rod Laser for Smith & Wesson M&P

Thanks,
Dustin

I've found that attachments to the rail tend to kick off after a bit. If anything, I'd go for a guide rod laser or check out the Crimson Trace lasers. The extra step of turning a laser 'on' can be an issue .... there's a lot to be said about it being instant from your grip or pressure on the trigger.

Don't forget, learning how to shoot with open sights is extremely important and will serve you much better than a laser ever will...

Welcome aboard, mate. Enjoy yourself and congrats on purchasing a great new weapon

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I plan on spending some time at the range to get my shooting tuned in here soon.

Does anyone have any idea when a green guide-rod laser will be out?

Thanks
Dustin

I'm not fond of green lasers. The red are usually easier to see against whatever background you engage.

I am skeptical of rear sight lasers. The rear sight takes a lot of abuse if you do one hand drills such as using the rear sight to rack the slide against your belt. With that said. I do not have any first hand experience with rear sight lasers

The Unimax is nice but hard to keep clean. That little lense is too close to all that burnt powder. You will need to use a fine tip eraser to get it off and even then you wont get it all off. I took mine off my handgun and put it on a rifle. IMHO Green lasers on a pistol are a bit of overkill, they are cool and work well but I have learned that at the effective distances of a handgun the red laser is more than adequate. Did you consider a light laser combo like a TLR2 or M6X? I does everything the others do at the correct distance and gives you the added benefit of a light and saves you some $$. I have gone that route with my HD pistols and put the longer distance beams on my longer distance rifles.

If you must go green consider a Viridian as well.

It is a scientific fact that red (wavelength) is seen/detected by the human eye "quicker/easier" than any other (wavelength) color. Which is why emergency vehicles/lights are red rather than green.

My 40c has a Crimsom Trace (LG 661) laser on it. Got it for $217 plus shipping.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to get the red guide rod laser for the MP9.

I plan on getting a S&W M&P 15-22LR and I will try the green on that.

Thanks
Dustin

Good price on that weapon! The local Gander Mountain here has three used M&P's and they want $490 with standard sights and $560 with night sights. USED that is.

I read somewhere that green lasers required more power and killed batteries quicker than similar red laser sites. Something else to keep in mind.

I doubt that the color of the laser has anything to do with the amount of power it consumes. However, if ALL green lasers happen to consume more power than ALL red lasers, then maybe their batteries do die quicker. A simple review and comparison of the product specs for each laser will tell you how long battery life is.
