S&W installs it with a press and they're hard to get out, but it can be done. They install and remove from the right side of the slide, as the dovetail is wider on that side. I used a square, flat punch with a piece of electrical tape on the end and also a heavy oil on the tape. These two things minimize the marking of the sight you're driving out. Also, a little penetrating oil in the dovetail helps too.
When you go to install the new sight, it should fit in about 1/3 of the way by hand, before driving it in. Again, use tape and oil to prevent marking the sight.

I just installed truglo TFOs on my 9c two weeks ago. I used a sight press and it was still slow.

As mentioned, take the sights out to the right. Penetrating oil helps as does heating the slide a bit then applying an ice cube to the sight for 30 sec or so.
Don't be in a hurry and cover anything that can get marred.

I have a s&w m&p 9mm. I was wondering if you have tried to move the rear sight. I know it`s just for windage, but even if you remove the set screw it dosent move. Any ideas?

Same way as above: Sight pusher or tap it out.

Here is the best method to change sights on a M&P. Takes very little effort and will not damage the sights or slide. This tool is a must when installing night sights.

Unless you're going to use it a lot, $125. is kind of expensive for a sight pusher, for a one shot deal replacing a sight.

Point well taken. I struggled a bit with this thought. In the end I bought the universal sight pusher (from Brownels). It's designed to work with just about any gun . That way, I can use it for the rest of my guns.
Worse case, I figure I could always sell it when Im done.

This is true for the average owner who may only change sights 1 or 2 times. I have changed 15 sets of sights with no problems. Sure better than hammering with a brass punch.

interesting. yours is black, while mine is blue. I have both the MP tool and the Glock tool. use it a few times and then sell them for 75% of what you paid.

Exclamation Sight Changing.

The range/shop where I shoot said they will change it for $10. So I would guess that others may do it as well. Chances are, like anything else, if you have to ask let a pro do it.

I put XS Big Dot sights on 9mmc. I am not a skilled craftsman but it proved quite easy with padded vise, steel punch, and hammer. It did ding up the factory front sight a tiny bit but can be smoothed out with a file easily.
There are vides on both the XS site and YouTube. Check them out.

I personally love the Big Dots! The factory people are very happy to discuss how to do it, just give them a call even if you are going to use another type sight.

At the worst all you can do is totally ruin a very good gun!!!

I should have been so lucky to have a tight front sight. After 200+ rounds through my M&P9c, my front sight started to move to the LEFT quite a ways from the recoil. I was able to remove the sight quite easily to the right to remove it completely. I researched "loose front M&P sights". Found that more than a few M&P pistols had the problem. Their quick fix on the forum was to clean the beveled channel area and apply RED (permanent) Loctite to the front sight and let it setup for 24 hrs before shooting. Rather than send the pistol back to S&W, I tried the suggested repair and it worked out just fine. I was careful to locate the front sight in the exact center of the slide, measuring with a vernier. After 300+ rounds it has not moved.
