MNP 9 mm Pro jamming

My brand-new MNP 9 mm Pro has been jamming frequently. I picked up the gun last Monday and shot 100 rounds at the dealer's indoor range. The gun jammed three times during 100 rounds, I attributed the jamming to a "tight" brand new gun. Today I shot 100 rounds and the gun jammed at least 10 times. The jams were primarily due to incomplete ejection of spent casings. Is frequent jamming typical of this gun during the “break-in” period?

The first 100 rounds were PMC and the second 100 were Federal.

No it is very uncharacteristic in fact. There is obviously something wrong with your new gun, I've never had a single problem and have shot at least ten different types and brands of ammo thousands of rounds in hot & cold temps etc...

I shot about 50% of the rounds today w/o a stove pipe jam. The jams were a problem when my 125 lb wife shot- possibly a "limp wrist" grip. Jamming was more common early in the session than late; she may have become more comfortable shooting as the session progressed and had a tighter grip. Today was her first time to shoot a pistol.

I found this entry under stove pipe jams-

Sorry to hear that you're having this problem. No "jamming" is not typical and there's not really a break in period for these like there is a lot of guns. I always recommend a "Break In" for carry gun, but that is mostly making sure that everything is fine and your carry ammo feeds properly all the time.

I do know that some people have PMC issues with many makes and models of guns. My M&P Pro 5" has worked flawlessly with about 7000 rounds through it. I shoot mostly the Federal that walmart sells.

Has anyone else tried to shoot it? If so, have they had the same problem?

I'm only around 400 rounds in my pro9 but haven't had any issues. I've used WWB and S&B

We were shooting Federal from Walmart today. I shot PMC at the indoor range when I took delivery from the dealer. My wife and I are the only 2 that have shot the pistol thus far. We will stress a tight & firm grip at the next range session and see if that solves the problem.

I have a 9 pro and I had a simuliar experience with it when it was brand new. The problem was with either the magazines or the slide's spring being to stiff (not the ammo, I later used the same ammo w/o a FTE).

I had this type of thing happen before with new guns and the 'fix' for mine was to load the magazines to the max and lock the slide to the rear.... I then let them sit that way for almost a month (I was to busy to shoot them at the time anyway.) 2 weeks is the normal cure time.

I later took the 9 Pro to the range and it function flawlessly.

A few months after that, I shot this same handgun at "Front Sight" training school in a 4 day defensive handgun class and shot what they call 'Distingushed Expert' with it. Not one FTE or FTE.

Great gun and I really like the grip/sight on the 9 Pro.

I hope this helps.

Pistol cleaned and properly lubricated? Use CLP, never grease.

Here is an update on my jamming problem. My wife and I went to the range today and shot 150 rounds today–she shot 90 rounds and I shot 60. We were shooting 15 rounds per magazine. She went through 4 magazines without a problem, but on her fifth magazine, the gun jammed four times. Using the same magazine, I then shot 15 rounds without a jam. I thought she may have been getting a little fatigued, so on the next round, I instructed her to maintain a very firm grip, shoot five rounds, put the gun down for 30 seconds and then shoot another five rounds. Shooting five rounds and resting resulted in her shooting the 15 round magazine without a jam.

Since we were shooting the same ammunition, with the same magazine and I did not have any jams, but she had several, it appears that her loose grip may be the culprit. Much to my delight, my wife enjoys shooting the pistol, but is frustrated with malfunctions. We will be shooting with some friends this weekend, and my wife will be able to fire a Glock 9 mm. I have the feeling that if the Glock isn't as sensitive to grip related jams, I will end up buying her a Glock.

As for the issue of cleaning a new gun before firing, I downloaded the owners manual prior to taking delivery and read the instructions. The gun was cleaned and the seven lubrication points received a drop of gun oil prior to firing the first round.

Since my wife is a 125 pound novice shooter, we will have to work on her maintaining a very firm grip. She will also probably benefit from some upper body and grip strength training.

Thanks to the contributors with the constructive comments.

If "Limp Wristing" really is the culprit, it will probably happen with the Glock too. I really liked my Glocks until I bought the M&P Pro. Now my Glock 22 Gen 4 and Glock 27 is for sale.

I'm not sure why people fill magazines with the maximum number of rounds at the range... A string of six or maybe ten is much more enjoyable to a new shooter or someone who gets fatigued easily from holding a large pistol.

limp wristing combined with weak ammo. All the PMC I have tried seemed way under powered compared others.

Buy some Lawman or SB and try it out again

Update-

I shot an additional 75 rounds today without a jam, so it does look like my wife’s grip is the culprit. We’ll be shooting 400-500 rounds this week and working on her grip. We videoed us shooting and the rounds all ejected to the upper right in a consistent path when I shot, but when she shot, the rounds ejected right, up, and slightly to the left. The gun was twisting in her hand during recoil.

I am getting more comfortable with the gun and love it- Today I managed 6 inch, 15 round groupings at 7 yds x 4 and put 12 out of 15 rounds on an 8 inch target at 15 yds.
