Disassembly Tool

Ok the plaastic part on the tool has worn down it seems and is now loose. Anyone else have this problem?

You probably can get another one from Midway or Brownells.... Or maybe even S&W if you ask nice....

Since the only reason you need the thing is the sear block during disassembly, once you've settled on a backstrap, you can learn how to use another tool (

) and just put some super-glue on the pin where it enters the plastic base. It won't really do anything useful, but should stay in place.

I used the "tool" one time.

No need for it, just clear the weapon, flip the disassembly lever, slide forward, pull the trigger. Slide comes right off, just like your Glock.

S&W sent me a new one for free.
Take the new one and put some silicone grease, or synthetic grease (not petroleum grease) on the shaft of the assembly tool. Will greatly aid in installation.
As for it's use, a flat blade screwdriver works very well for pushing the sear lever down. If you don't have a magazine safety on your gun, just pulling the trigger when removing the slide works just fine and is safe. If you have a magazine safety, you need to push the lever down before removing the slide.

Called S&W today, outstanding customer service... better than I expected! Theyre sending me a new one free of charge. Ill use the old one or a screw driver to move the latch and keep the new one in the gun. Problem solved!

Yes, the little plastic nib that locks in place just sheared right off on mine while changing the backstrap...Called S&W CS and they sent me another. I use the original for field stripping. I change the backstrap on mine depending on circumstances such as when wearing gloves so I don't want to glue it in place as some have suggested.

I recently bought an M&P-9. I didn't think I would ever get the tool out of the grip the first time. Once I did get it out I wet it down good with a heavy silicon spray and ran it in and out of the grip hole repeatedly to spread a bit of the silicon around.

Easy in and out now.

Yea mine started to wear a little bit I noticed. now I have my backstrap taloned on and I don't plan on ever taking the tool out again if I don't have to.

I just use my fingernail.
