New VTAC M&P Pistol for 2011, take a look.
I was just cruising the VTAC Website ( www.vikingtactics.com ) and noticed that they were offering a new sight for the M&P line of pistols. After checking them out, I kinda liked them so I went over to the S&W site and checked out the new pistols and noticed this pistol (link below)
Product: Model M&P9 VTAC® Viking Tactics
This looks like a neat pistol for my first M&P purchase. Anybody have any other info on this like if someone saw it at SHOT Show and what did you think? Thanks..
I am wondering if these sights would be a good site for a suppressor on this gun?

Other than the VTAC writting on the side of the sights and the Flat Dark Earth color, what is the difference between the VTAC and any other M&P9?
I believe the FDE color was only offered on the 45 ACP in the past. It is nice to see it being offered on the 9mm version.
If you can find a threaded barrel for the M&P's or the "Spec-Ops" version, you can add a can. I'm not sure if these VTAC sights are high enough to maintain a sight picture over the can though.
Good luck! I really enjoy my M&P9 Spec-Ops with threaded barrel. I picked up a S&W M&P9 factory barrel (unthreaded) for most of my shooting needs. I still need to find a can and procure it.

Great idea. But too much money.
You might be able to accomplish the same result with a Tru Glo TFO front sight only.
Sometimes too much of a good thing is just that. But since I've never tried the Viking sight, I don't know for sure.

It is a brand new sight out this year and is pretty damn expensive by itself on VT website...

An extra $210 for tan color and some sights? And $110 more than the Pro with night sights? No thanks

I handled it at SHOT. Those sights are total fail: way too much going on, way too distracting. Gimmick squared. The serious operator or informed pistol packer will pass on it. But in a down market, anything that might stick to the wall gets launched.

That VTAC model really is too expensive for what you get unless there is more to it than what they describe.
Not a fan of FDE coloration either, but that is in the eyes of the beholder.

For those interested, VTACs are starting to show.
I have a 9 here, a .40 should be next week.
Sights are a little busy, as some have noticed, have not had a chance to shoot it yet to see how well they do or don't work.

Looks good to me, I have a Springfield XD in dark earth and blue, but that VTAC looks cool with the slide tan also. Sometimes that's all it takes, if it looks cool I buy it.Comes in .40 S&W also. Will have to see one in person, but it's a contender. God Bless.

So far, not having shot either one yet, it appears the fiber optics greatly overpower the tritiums in any light bright enough to power them, and the fiber optics disappear when it's dim enough to see the tritiums.
I'll see how they work at the range, but I think they may turn out to be do-able.

Anyone out there with experience shooting one?? I've read other place that the sights are much better on the range than at the gun counter.
Regards,

Shot the .40 VTAC today.
I am not one to rush headlong into embracing the latest & greatest, and I initially thought the VTAC sights might lean a little toward the gimmicky side.
But, after today, I'm sold.
On the range, in bright and intermittently light overcast skies, the fibers were bright & the tritiums just disappeared. My eye immediately went to the bright green, that's for all practical purposes all there was. Tritiums might as well not have even been there, no clutter whatever.
Around the house, in & out of different lighting intensities, when the light is dim enough to switch the tritiums on, the fibers disappear. Again, no clutter at all, and there aren't four dots competing for attention or distracting the eye at the rear.
For me, anyway.
In some lighting, there's sorta a crossover where both fibers & tritiums may be about equally dim, but generally it's one or the other that pops out.
Between the two, they extend sight visibility far beyond what either would do alone.
I also like the very slightly pyramidized front blade, plenty of light on both sides of it in the rear notch for more precise aimed fire without using the dots.
I shot the new Walther PPQ right after, and the VTAC sights were much more visible.

Thanks for the info Denis. Your experience confirms what I've read elsewhere. I'll have to give them a look.................

I think they're very much worth a look.
Gunshop perusal doesn't give the whole story, need to check it out in varying lighting to get the best overall impression, if possible.

Picked up one last week. Love it! The sights work great. If their is light, your eye goes to the fiber optics. If dark, all yoi see is the tritium. Shot some cans suppressed the other night into a dirt mountain at a construction sight. Way cool.

I am looking to pick up an M&P and was considering the VTAK model. Unfortunately, there is no way to get a look at the gun in person - it is an order only item for every shop i checked around me and the store at Smith and Wesson in Mass does not have one in stock.
Regardless, would appreciate some more feedback re the sight system from folks that have shot the gun.
thanks

I picked mine up on Gunbroker. Probably paid too much, but I do really like it. The way that the sights are set up works very well. If their is any light, the fiber optics pick it up and that is where your eye goes. If it is dark enough for the tritium sights to be seen, you will not see the fiber optics and your eye will go to the tritium sights. It is my 1st M&P and I really like how it shoots and feels. I put a threaded barrel, an apex trigger, and use the small backstrap and am really happy. It shoots smoother than my HKs. So much so that I am keeping my eye out for more

does anyone know what the difference really is? I know the VTAC has different sights and the gun is a different color, but beyond that, is it just a stock M&P? I have heard it has some internal upgrades, but can't find any info to back that up. I just bought a VTAC 9 and love it. Adding a VTAC 40 to my collection soon. They are getting hard to find.

I bought a VTAC last fall and am very happy with it. The sights are not at all distracting since the correct combo only shows when needed. The only problem is that Apex dose not make the positive reset for this pistol. I put one in my 9Pro and like how it works.

im new to the forum so forgive me if im out of line. but I have one of the VTAC m&p9s. feels and shoots great. the sights were easy to get use to. I want to have a better trigger for the gun. its just to long of a pull and way to heavy. any advice would be helpful.
