Detroit PD M&P40
Friend has an opportunity to purchase a "Detroit PD" M&P in 40 S&W with 3" barrel. Since I'm a "revolver guy" I don't relate to what model number this may be. Can you help ID this?

Where are they measuring the barrel from? If they're measuring from in front of the chamber, it could be full-sized. M&P40's have 4" barrels and M&P40c's have 3.5" barrels.
There are at least 8 different product codes for the M&P40 (not including the Pro series) and 6 for the M&P40c

Just found out it is a full size 4". Looks like there's lots of options of what this gun could be.

Well for about $65 and 30 seconds of time you could turn it into a 9mm or .357. Try that with your revolver!!!

Is it a Detroit PD over-run with dept markings or just the M&P40 model that D.P.D. uses?

Supposedly it was an actual in-service weapon and has the department markings.

Being that I live in the Detroit area, I really wouldn't want ANYTHING that says "Detroit PD", but that's just me...

Check the source. We have not had these very long and few have been released to retired officers. There should not be many at all in circulation.

That's what I was thinking. I remember the old Glocks were selling just a few months ago.

You can still get the old Glocks in a lot of places but I would run the numbers on a Detroit M&P to be sure it is legit.

My distributor had a number of these guns, LE package with three mags and nights sights. Laser etched Detroit PD markings as I recall, all were overruns.
