I have one, and like it very much. But I don't think there's enough general interest to create a separate forum for it.

Then again, I have two ex-wives willing to share how often I'm wrong. :-)

Looking at the M&P40 I purchased when they first came out and the M&Ps offered now, I think if we started to separate them out we'd end up with so many sub forums of sub forums that we would never find any thread.

Go ahead and start a thread with your questions and comments. I love my M&P5.7 and will chime in!

I have a FN Five Seven and a FN PS90, 5.7x28 is a great round but those two are the only ones that I think that I will ever own chambered in it

So you don't reload your 5.7x28's, and have never tried an M&P?

Default Unthreaded Barrel for 5.7

I really like my S&W 5.7 and would buy another if it came with an unthreaded barrel. Anyone know if such a gun will sometime be offered by the factory?
- - - -Buckspen
P.S - I am also still looking for base pads for my 5.7 mags. Anybody making these?

Would like to know more about brass life with
reloading the 5.7.
I remember when the early FN owners complained
about the short case life.

Buckspen, you may have already seen this post on this forum section, but this gentleman had his threaded shroud and barrel whacked off, it looks pretty good:

Very true. The 'blowback' of the FN, etc.would really move the shoulder of the casing and pushing it back with resizing really weakened that area. I could get maybe four reloads before the M&P before the neck/shoulder would split. I used to separate my fired brass by how many times it had been fired but no longer.

I have been using the same 200 pieces of brass over and over to test the M&P's Tempo system and so far no neck/shoulder splitting.
Fire - media tumble - resize - load - fire - repeat.
The ones that still have 'some' coating left look terrible but still no FT feed or fire (or extract).
Every one of them has been loaded at least ten times and because the head is so small, I have had to retire a few because the primers were getting loose.
With the fully supported bolt face and the extractor having to jump the rim I had expected those tiny rims to start failing but that hasn't been an issue yet. Strange looking extractor but I guess the design works.

I've been shooting 5.7x28 for 19+ years via the PS90 and the M&P 5.7 is the first 5.7 pistol I have. I've shot the Five-seveN pistol before.

The M&P 5.7 and 22 Magnum use the same/similar slide dimensions as the MGW Sight-Pro shoes are the same for both (SP175). And it seems they both use the Tempo gas system.

Also I found out the M&P 5.7 bore is more of a 22LR bore size than 5.56/5.7/.223 the reason being that my Geissele 5.56 alignment rod wouldn't fit through the M&P 5.7 barrel. I had to buy a Griffin 22 cal alignment rod to fit through.

There are some M&P 5.7 forums (I am on at least one) but its fairly quiet.

Bullet Bob - I did see that post and found it interesting and encouraging. The M&P 22 Mag doesn't use the threaded barrel, so I don't see why the 5.7 couldn't be done the same way. Hopefully, the factory will take the hint and add such a model to the line.
Thanks for replying to my post.

The barrel isn’t actually threaded. It’s the shroud that is threaded.

Any reason why you don’t like the threaded setup? I find it convenient because I can run a OCL Lithium or Titanium straight out of the box.

"Hopefully, the factory will take the hint and add such a model to the line."

Sounds great to me. Maybe they'll build me one without an optic cut and black, full size target sights.

Edited to add, no rail on the dustcover, either. I'm sure at least one other person would like this configuration, so I'm sure S&W will leap to spend many thousands of dollars just to make a couple of hundred from us.

The Optic Cut and threaded shroud is what sold me on the M&P 5.7

If you don't want the optic cut or threaded shroud/barrel, the FN Five-seveN is probably more up your alley.

The 5.7x28 cartridge is far more capable than the other pistol cartridges. It benefits from a red dot. You can shoot it at 50 yd - 100 yd quite easily. Even the best and thinnest iron sights are going to cover too much of the target beyond 50 yd. I shoot my PS90 SBR at 100 yd with the MC-10-80 unmagnified. The SS195 ballistics has enough velocity for 200-225 yd but that's out of a 10.4" to 16" barrel.

I do frequent self-defense/tactical training with my 5.7. I prefer an IWB holster and "appendix" carry position. That thread protector on the end of the barrel gets very hot! I don't use any barrel attachments and so have no need for the threads on the end of the shroud.
I have tried the FN Five-seveN and did not care for the design. I also tried the Ruger 57 but I found that the S&W has a much better trigger and has even less recoil.
I do use a red dot sight (Holosun HS507Kx2) as I have some eyesight problems.

I would just let it cool before bolstering it. The threaded shroud lets me run a fan so that’s really cool. Not a fan of 5.7 as a carry round and I’ve been shooting it for 19+ years. But I see your point. Make it an option or perhaps sell a non threaded shroud.

I wondered about the brass. I had an FN and found reloading a real pain but it looks like S&W has come up with a design that makes reloading easy. I will enjoy my new S&W a lot more.

OP, since this website lumps all post-1980 S&W Revolvers - pre-lock, post-lock, pre-MIM, post-MIM, etc - into a single forum, your chances of getting an ultra-niche M&P 5.7 Forum are most likely....

How well did the suppressor work?

I once had a Ruger single six with a 22 Magnum cylinder and the fireball out of end of the barrel was impressive and loud.
