Default 40c Not in Battery: SOLVED

My 40c would occasionally not fully cycle closed. A small tap to move the slide forward the final 1/16 of an in inch would allow the gun to fire. It also sometimes felt like the forward motion of the slide happened in two steps. The issue is a small "nub" left on the ramp of the frame from the manufacturing process. My guess is that it is ground down further on some guns, so they don't have this issue. The "nub" holds the barrel back and requires some extra force to clear. File it off and this issue will be gone. One attached photo shows where I sanded off the "nub". The second photo shows the witness mark on the bottom of the barrel where it was hanging up. If you try this, I would be interested in knowing if it works for you too.

I just got a new full size .40 Pro Series last weekend. I just checked it and it's already ground off. Now that I looked at it again I recall seeing that grind mark on the back of the locking block and thinking it was odd for a MIM part to have a grind mark like that.

I don't have my other full size .40 or my .40c here otherwise I'd look at those two also for bonus points.

None of mine have a problem staying out of battery. Without seeing my other two I'll bet that's why the Pro Series has been ground on.

Bill

Thanks for the thread 10350. I have the same issue you describe, but not positive the solution is the same. I looked for a "nub" as described, but did not see one. In fact, that area already looks like it has been somewhat ground down.

One thing about my problem is that it only hangs up when there is ammo in the mag. If the mag is empty, then the slide goes all the way to battery with no problem at all.

Just the same, I'll get some fine sand paper and try polishing the area, and maybe put a drop of oil on it and see if that does it. If not, I am not sure what to do.

Thanks in advance for any other suggestions.

Thanks for the solution to a problem. I'll look for that when my M&P 40C gets here.
