Default Providence PD goes to M&P 40s

Providence PD dropped their Beretta Px4 .40s in favor of M&P 40s. The transition is in progress. Beretta didn't address the problems they had with their gun. I don't know what the issues were. Another win for S&W.

Woo Hoo! More M&P's in duty holsters, always good to hear. I wonder what problems they were having with their PX4's?

I'm unsure of the problems. My buddy has his issued Px4 still, it's run 100% for him.

I have a PX4, it would be interesting to see what the issues were. I love mine.

My buddy got his M&P40 today. He loves the ergos, hates the trigger, but he's been told it'll smooth up with use. He said the problems with the Px4 were caused by the locking lugs. When their guns heated up from extensive firing, the lugs wouldn't engage properly. One of the armorers stoned the lugs and recesses and informed BUSA of their problem and his solution. Finally, after 1 1/2 years, Beretta in Italy contacted them for the fix. Unfortunately, they are in the transition process and S&W is the new gun. Beretta dropped the ball.

Maybe Beretta just doesn't give a **** about the police market here in the USA as they have been losing departments to either S&W or Glock for the most of the past fifteen years or so. They have the US Military buying their guns, maybe they feel the don't need the police market. Dunno.

Interesting on the lugs, I would have guessed something like trigger sting, or the guide rods breaking in cold weather. Trigger sting on the 40 seem like an all too common thread on the Beretta forum.

MA State Police just put out a RFP for 45 caliber sidearms. The M&P will be the only gun to meet the specs. Vt State Police are also looking at the M&P's also. The MA Stae Police Stop Team transitioned to S&W E-series 1911"s

Default Cops going to M&P's

Guys while i am happy for the success Smith is experiencingi can't help but be a little apprehensive that they are going to eventually suffer from the success.
Case in point-Sig Sauer. When i started in this hobby 20 years ago, buying a sig meant you were buying a rock solid, reliable accurate weapon. Then comes all of thegovernment contracts, 48 new models a year(some that have no earthly reason for ever being produced). New sigs leave the factory and hammers don't fall, extractors breakin the first 10 rounds, they don't feed from the first mag etc.... There is no way in hell they don't know these are problems whenthey ship. IMHO they just ship them for the sale.
Hope this doesn't start to happen with Smith. I have alot of good ones andlove their weapons.

Wink

All of my bought in the nineties Sigs still work flawlessly. Rotating locking lugs are great on rifles, bad on handguns. The drop to unlock cam system on the Sig, M&P, Glock, and many more is just about goof proof. I'm sure if JM Browning were here today, he'd look at a Sig 226 and pronounce it correctly designed. I like the M&P and own several. My choice would be one in 357 Sig for duty carry. Bob!!

The MA fish and wildlife officers (i.e. Clam Cops) carry M&P's now as well.
