First time out with my M&P 9
I got to take out me M&P 9 yesterday finally. I practiced dry firing all week at home, read a lot on trigger control and best practices. I noticed before I went out that my front site was a little off center to the left, so I really wanted to see where it was shooting. My friend had a seated bench build about 35 feet from the target, I sat down and shot several times from a nice steady bench. On shots without pulling I was hitting about 3/4 or 1/2 inch left, so I was happy that the sites were good to go. I fired about 220 rounds, some from 7 yards, and then more from about 12 or 13 yard. On unrushed and suprised break shoots I did very well at both ranges. The bad news was that I was pulling about half my shots to the left. Looking at trigger control charts, It seems I was tightening my fingers, and to little finger on trigger. I did notice that by relaxing my grip on the gun and sliding my trigger finger to just before the first crease things worked better. My question is, is this the best way to fix my issue. I don't want to teach myself something that fixes my problem but will develop into other issues down the road.
Any pointers are welcome!
Thanks
Jason

I too just purchased an M&P 9mm ( pro version) 4.25". I too noticed before firing, that my front sight was off center( to the left) just a little bit. I was concerned about strightening before I actually fired it. Anyways I didnt straighten before shooting and it actually shot pretty good with a missaligned sight, wow! But, I only fired 50 rds, I need to shoot more. Im wondering if they install these off center on purpose? Sounds like this is a common problem.

Hey Zeke, congrats on the new M&P. I just read some stuff on the sites a little while ago. It was saying that a lot of sites will look off center if looking down at them from above. The site really needs to be centered for the center axis of the barrel. For shooting the last two days, even though mine looks off from above, it is shooting very straight.

Always shoot a pistol first no matter how the sights look. The pistol should have been sighted in at the factory and perfectly centered sights don't always result in perfectly centered shots. That is why sights are designed to be drifted and not just to be installed onto the slide. Before moving/adjusting any sight, shoot the pistol firmly supported on a bench.
My vaunted H&K P30 came with extremely perfectly centered sights that shot exactly 3 inches left of point of aim at 15 yards. Drifting the rear sight slightly to the right solved that. My Smith M&P9 shot dead on, POA/POI right out of the box and its rear sight sits slightly to the right. Bill
