Default Sight adjustment for M&P(

I just got my M&P9 and I love it. I have had many Semi-Auto pistols(Glock 17 was last) and i grew up shooting. SHot expert in the MArines anyway I know how to shoot but My pistol is shooting low. Normaly one would think I was flinching to shoot low but i assure you i am not. I need to adjust the sight but do not know how. Can someone help please?

Only the rear sight can be adjusted and its only for wind. It can only be moved from left to right.

Had the same problem with my 9mm Pro. I had to endure lectures from everyone about my lack trigger control. The Pro has a fiber optic front sight. You can't really file on it. A plain blade front sight can be carefully filed down. Be careful because you can't unfile it. To raise the POI (point of impact) you lower the front sight. I simply bought Dawson Precision adjustable rear and matching front FO, which is another story.

You can go to the Dawson Precision site and they have the formula for calculating the necessary change.

115gr shoots the lowest;
124gr shoots a touch higher (what I use in a 9 Pro 5");
147gr shoots the highest.
Might try different ammo?

My 40c shoots pretty low. And then my white dot fell off. So, I covered up the hole with a black piece of vinyl decal and placed a white dot decal over the the black decal. The dot almost touching the slide. Its been working out pretty good so far.

If anyone wants to give it a try, a $1 paypal gift will get you 10 dots and 10 black covers. The buck is just to cover the stamp and envelope. Its non-permanent. In fact, it will probably fall off if you put cleaning fluid and take a brush to it...

Do you have a sight picture of that? Been trying to find one. Debating between that and the Novak Adjustable.

My M&P Pro Full Size shot low too. I was using Federal 115 grain Wally World FMJ ammo. I bench rested the gun and shot a variety of ammo through it. Federal HST 147 grain was right on target. I just replaced my sights with Trijicon HD sights and have not had a chance to zero them.

Your not crazy. Most experienced shooters have found the sights shoot low.

Could it be the sight picture? Does it shoot low with a 6 o'clock picture and ok when the precise center of the target is covered by the front sight? Just asking.

Shooting "expert" in any military service doesn't mean you know how to shoot as was graphically pointed out to me several years ago when I attended my first "basic tactical pistol" course conducted by a Gunsite range master!

These pistols are usually setup for point of aim is point of impact, not a lollypop sight picture. Bench rest shoot yours at 25 yards to see where it prints. Anything closer doesn't show the differences real well.

Also note that heavier bullets shoot higher at these ranges.

Every handgun I have owned since my first one in 1980 has shot to the left and some have shot low. I have adjusted every one to shoot to my point of aim, which is to say, I moved them all to the right and some had front sight adjustments or replacements. I too qualified Expert and could easily do it today. If nothing else I am consistent and this is all that matters. If I can consistently hit what I aim at, and I do, who is to say I am doing it "wrong"?

This explains some causes in the vertical plane: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/image...ightHeight.pdf

Dawson has different height front sights to remedy such problems.

Think I figured out why nobody has a sight picture for the Dawson Precision. Because a picture of the sight picture is extremely difficult to shoot. Did the best I could. This is what I came up with. The blurry red dot up-front is a decal (see earlier post, same thread).

AND, couldn't resist posting this pic that I took. Came out pretty nice.
