M&P 45 Mid-size vs M&P9 dimensions
Today, upon very close inspection, I discovered that a M&P 45 mid-size has nearly the exact same dmensions as a full-size M&P9. And the 45 is only .2 oz heavier. Most importantly, this means that all my holsters for the 9 will fit my 45.

I was going to ask this question. I see a few holster websites that list choices for the M&P 9/40 and don't list the M&P 45. I was mostly wondering what the width difference was, and if a 9/40 spec holster would fit my M&P 45.

I bought a Desantis holster listed for my M&P 45, and found that my 9 fits it great. It is a thumb break type hoster so others my differ a little.

I use a Galco Summer Comfort for 9, 40, 45fs and 45c. The 45fs projects through approximately 1/8 inch but that doesn't present a problem. Two other Galco's work the same but I didn't like so wont list them.
Galco now offers the SC2 which is the same basic unit with thumb break I would like to try but am concerned the thumb break will not work with the longer (front to rear) grip of my 45.

Does the .45 seem to fit more snugly in the holster than the 9/40? I had a Kydex holster made by a guy, and he didn't have the .45 M&P, only the 9/40, and when I got the holster my gun was tight and wouldn't go in without a lot of effort. I had to bust out the heat gun to get it to fit.

The Summer Comfort is all leather so has some give and recovery properties. Also a leather IWB holster is assisted by the belt which tightens down on it.
I realy don't notice any difference in insertion/extraction force between the 45's and other calibers.
There is only around .020 inches difference in slide width but that is enough to be a problem with non adjustable Kydex.

I love the fact that Both my M&P 45c and M&P 9 will fit in my Desantis Skycop holsters made for my Glock 17. In actuallity, I'm finding my M&P's fit in a LOT of my Glock holsters. What a great bonus!
