Question Kydex for an M&P 9c ?

Greetings fellow forumites.

I've had a 9c for several years now, and over that time have picked up a few holsters for it in leather and ballistic nylon. I have a few small accessories made of Kydex, but so far, have NO Kydex holsters.

I'm starting to wonder if I wouldn't like to try one, so here I am, asking for opinions and advice from the best and brightest 9c owners in the world. (yes, I mean y'all!)

What Kydex holsters do you have? Do you like it enough that you'd buy another one if this one disappeared?

Thanks folks.

I carry my M&P 9c in a Comp-Tac Infidel. Been using it for 3 years now and really like it. It can be removed easily which helps since I can't carry into certain government buildings.

I have an IWB and a pocket holster (cargo pockets), both in Kydex. I'd never go back to anything else.

I have read really good reviews on the Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe IWB holster. Might not be the prettiest out there, but supposedly it works wonders. I actually just put in an order for one for my 4006. Unfortunately they are a bit backordered right now so I supposedly won't see it for about 6 weeks or so.

However, I'll be happy to post up about it when I get to use it a bit, if you would like an opinion on it. But then again, opinion are like ******oles...everyone has one. LOL

However, if I do like it and I end up getting a 40c, I may order another one for the 40c.

Here's the rig I got from Personal Security Systems Kydex Holsters for my 40c, and yes, I'd buy another one if ever I needed another one.

Default Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback, everyone. Quite a few positive remarks about the comp-tac. I may just have to add one to the stable.

I've never used a concealed carry kydex only the OWB models from Fobus and Bladetech. Both work great for the range but hold the gun out enough I wouldn't consider them for CC. I like the trigger finger release feature of the Bladetech Serpa holster, it seems more positive and the come with both belt and paddle options with them so you can switch to whatever works best. The Fobus Evolution holster is a bit cheaper, can be had either as a paddle or belt, I prefer the Roto version so I can adjust the angle on it and it has a screw to adjust retension.

I'm looking for a x-draw rh OWB holster for my 40c that clips and then locks onto the belt rather than the belt looping through it. I'm coming up with just the belt loops...any ideas?

I'm a Comp-Tac fan. I've used their MTAC for CCW, and their paddle holsters for range use. Now I just wish they made holsters for my 6906

You might want to take a look at Zorn.

Also Roger's Custom Holsters.

I don't know anything about either of them, but they look pretty nice.

+1 to the infidel!

I can't say enough about the comp-tac infidel! I use one for all of my glocks, my H&K USP compact and have one arriving this week for my brand new M&P FS .40 and for my new Springfield XDs 9mm.

Over the last two years I have transitioned to 100% IWB and only use this holster. I prefer it over the leather/kydex hybrid holsters as they don't wear the finish of the gun as much and more importantly don't have any leather "creak" while wearing them. They are comfortable and 100% silent. I tried a Galco king tuk that creaked all the time and gave up the stealthiness of carrying concealed.

I get my infidels with the belt clip and have them add the c-strut option for another $10. This allows me to keep the cant I like.

I have a Comp Tac OWB paddle holster. I like it, but they are harsh on the finish.

Blade Tech offers more flexibility with belt attachments.

i have an Our Kydex Holsters | Concealed Carry & Kydex Gun Holsters Kits At Old Faithful Holsters. for my 40c. it's their owb that i assembled...very nice holster i wear it a lot in the winter when i have baggier clothes on as the owb conceals well, but not completely for summer wear. i have considered one of their iwb holsters for summer and probably would have purchased one by now had i not started pocket carrying.

Highly recommend X-concealment. I literally use it 7 days a week. Furry carry solutions makes nice stuff also. Just picked up a raven vanguard 2, which is working out nicely for shorts and t shirt.

I searched and have tried IWB holsters for a year before I settled on a Alien Gear Holsters. There are manysimilarly designed holsters out there. Alien Gear sells there for almost half of what others sell. They have a great warranty and you can purchase the kydex portion only if you change guns or want to swith carry guns for a great price. Check them out.

I've had extremely good luck with both IWB and OWB Kydex gear from PJ Custom Holsters, and with OWBs from Atomic Dog Holsters.

I agree with AlienGear but...I'm still in "Hunt" for the right two holsters - IWB and OWB.

What I have found with what I have.

My gun is a M&P .40 full size little large and heavy. I have a good leather belt 1 1/2" wide, 1/8" thick and works well.

The Blade-Tech OWB came with the Stingray belt attachment. It works OK but does allow the heel of the grip to "flop" outward too much. I thought a "Paddle" attachment would cure the problem so I order that. The "Paddle" helps but still allows the gun heel to stick out.

The Paddle is a little difficult to put on and take off without undoing my belt. The belt-size retainer (see pic http://www.gotnarcosis.com/brucewitt...dleBack001.jpg ) on the Paddle style sticks into your pants (not uncomfortably) but gets in the way when putting it on while dressed. I may end up grinding a little off the protrusions.

My suspicion is a good leather "Pancake" holster with 2 belt slots may fix that problem by pulling the holster flat against my side rather than the space caused by the holster shell, belt-position retainer, mounting plate and paddle attachment.

I also have an AlienGear IWB made for my pistol. The Shell fits like skin on the gun and is very comfortable but it too is a little difficult to put on and take off. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it. I just don't know at this time whether to return it for a full refund & use the money elsewhere or hang onto it.

I am pretty convinced I need a Kydex shell for IWB to prevent compression and I am considering some brands with Kydex shells and a single belt clip (like LittleFoxx) for IWB carry. IWB I can get the gun to lay flat against my side.

The all kydex single clip IWB holsters are good for quick trips and occasional wear because they are so easy to take on and off especially if you anticipate you will need to take your holster off and on when you are out and about.

For all day wear I find the single clip does allow the piece to 'walk' on my belt requiring several small adjustments to the holster position throughout the day and the walks are more pronounced the larger the piece. With a dual clip holster style, I get no such movement - set it and forget it.

The dual clip is hardly difficult to put on in the morning and take off in the evening, but it is a trade off on the ease of taking on/off and how much adjusting you are willing to put up with during the day.

I have an all kydex single clip for a couple of my single stacks and use them occasional, but for all day wear I still go to the hybrids. It's rare I need to take my holster off and on again during the day once I leave the house, so to put a hybrid on for me it is not a big deal. That said, everyone's needs in a holster are different.

I've never had issues with the single clip on Comp-Tac or Blade Tech moving and, most days I wear them for 7-8 hours.

Can anyone compare a good leather IWB to a good Kydex IWB?

I've gone to 100% leather for IWB and absolutely love it, but I'm here to learn....

I've heard nothing but good things about PJ Holsters. The Glock community raves about them. Simple, practical, thin and lightweight; The standard holsters are made with a single sheet of kydex. The tuckable models use two.

They are all hand-made by the owner to the buyers specs, with customizable kydex thickness, ride height, cant, color (including patterns and camo), and belt attachment options. Prices are also very resonable, starting at $50 for holsters and $20 for mag carriers.

In fact, I have one on order for my M&P9c. It's the tuckable model with a 20* cant and standard ride height, along with a tuckable single mag carrier.

His current backlog is about 10 weeks.

Here's his tuckable model.

I've generally carried my 1911s in leather IWB, but I've used a few kydex as well. In my experience, the leather tends to me more comfortable, since it tends to mold to the carriers body. This is especially true of my favorite leather IWB, the UBG Striker. Leather also tends to be a bit more finish-friendly.

Kydex has the advantage in thinness. A slim gun in kydex simply vanishes. The fact that kydex is rigid also aides in reholstering, where a leather IWB often needs an additional layer at the mouth to keep it open when empty. This makes them even thicker. The other advantage kydex has is that it doesn't retain moisture like leather can.

The biggest downside to kydex is that, in my experience, it's usually less comfortable simply due to being hard, though the aforementioned thinness can lend a measure of comfort all its own. Also, if the holster isn't well-finished, it can have very hard edges that can gouge a gun's finish, jab the wearer, or wear holes in clothing. That said, proper application of heat can allow minor adjustments to a kydex holster. Edges can also be sanded smooth.

Rocket Man RM Holsters...The OWB ECP (extreme cant paddle) is an awesome holster. I use one for my Shield every day. The natural draw angle is comfortable and keeps printing down. Even when you're sitting in your truck is feels great. Got one for my G27 as well. And at $60 it wont break the bank. Made to order for you.

Thanks, B3500 for your input.

Xader - this is what I've experienced too. But the attachment/paddle/clips can add to thickness and in some cases make the fit a bit sloppy.

The fact that kydex is rigid also aides in reholstering, where a leather IWB often needs an additional layer at the mouth to keep it open when empty. This makes them even thicker. The other advantage kydex has is that it doesn't retain moisture like leather can.
I really do like the AlienGear but I may replace the shell with either a Blade-Tech or Galco - they are a little thicker and are a full wrap-around shell.

Kydex has the advantage in thinness.

I order all my leather in horsehide now.... It's much thinner than cow hide. And it's moisture resistant.

I bought everything I need to make Kydex holsters and have a lot of them now, I just can't get Kydex to be as comfortable as a good Horsehide leather holster.

Yea...I view posts as "Sitting around a camp fire chatting". Topic may shift a bit too but for the most part it is a common interest to the members - Holsters.

I carry appendix at about 1 o'clock in a G-Code Incog, it is by far the most concealable and most comfortable I have tried.

If you want IWB, then the hybrids are the way to go, much more comfortable than an all kydex holster. Crossbreed, Theis, White Hat, Aliengear etc.

I have to disagree - I've found the hybrids to be less comfortable than a well designed Kydex IWB. YMMV and all that.

I bought a 9c in January, 2012, and with it a leather Blackhawk IWB holster. It was not comfortable and printed. I, then, bought an Old Faithful IWB holster that was Kydex with a larger leather backing piece. It is a very comfortable holster to carry the 9c. It distributes the weight and hides the gun. Plus, it is adjustable for cant and ride height.

I ordered an Old Faithful holster on 31 Jan. It was promised to be here by 28 Feb. Today is 12 Mar and still no holster. Not real impressed with Old Faithful at the moment.
