Default The New Smith & Wesson M&P 22 pistol....

Sorry for starting a new thread, but the other M&P 22 had been hijacked a couple times.

Scouring the internet for the latest information about the release date I stumbled upon something interesting to me: the M&P22's frame is metal versus polymer.
Product: Smith & Wesson Model M&P22 I guess I shouldn't be surprised as obviously the goal is keeping the price inexpensive and hopefully not cheap. Looking at the pictures almost looks like some sort of cast type metal. I'm no engineer, but all I could think of was these cast metal irons in my golf bag.

With still no definitive date when these pistols are gonna be available, why aren't they just developing a .22lr conversion kit for the M&P? Again...I'm no engineer, and by no means a gunsmith but Smith and Wesson wants us to shell out $419 for this pistol when most of us would probably be happy with a conversion kit. If a company like Kimber came make a 1911 conversion kit for $300 bucks or less, and a small company like Jon Ciener can make a Beretta 92fs kit for $199 bucks, why can't a powerhouse like Smith and Wesson do the same?

Come on S&W.....I'm calling you out!

The link to the S&W site says the frame is metal but it also says that the grip is polymer. I E-mailed Smith customer service when I first heard about the M&P-22 pistol and they said the first model will not have interchangable backstraps and the medium sized grip is one piece.

My guess is the frame material is polymer and the metal was a typo.

Heybrowndog,

My M&P .22 is on order, maybe one of the very first since I ordered it back in February, but my cost is $281.99 with free shipping. I don't know where you saw it for $419 but that's not what they are selling for.

The folks who have shot one say they are really sweet guns.

$281.99 is a decent price....now we're talking. $419 was on the S&W site....see my link. Where can I get one for $281.99? Did they give you a delivery date?

The delivery date has been pushed back again and again. Last I've heard it may be July.
I buy a lot of my guns from Express Police Supply aka OMB Express. Google them.

You can shop around, if OMB can sell them for $282 I'm sure others can.

Looks like they're calling the trigger block and sear block (assuming the internal construction is similar to the bigger M&P's) the "frame", and the plastic parts "the grip".... No need for the stainless slide, and it probably would be a disadvantage.

One caveat - my Kimber kit (on an old Commander frame) pretty much requires "hi velocity" ammunition - costs about twice as much as regular .22's - in order to work well unless the thing is super-clean. I wonder if that's an issue here.

Might be fun to have one, but not an issue. That said, guys who are using the larger calibers as EDC or "service" might find it handy to equip a .22 the same way, and save a few bucks training. Probably a 9mm version of their EDC/Service would be almost as cheap to operate, though.

(I paid about $280 for the Kimber kit, btw. Already had - and blown up - the Commander. WAY unsafe for .45's, but the .22 won't bother it. Not the greatest "cross trainer", but not bad.)

Regards,

Default Epic Fail S&W

Hey there folks, new to the S&W forum, like what I see so far and hope to continue enjoying the site for some time to come. I am a S&W owner of several makes and models, and I also use the M&P 9mm for my duty weapon and the compact model for my off duty weapon love them both, major win with the M&P series, I also use the S&W 686 plus as my other on duty weapon when I chose to carry a revolver great gun BTW. I look forward to purchasing more S&W products in the near future, but enough of the introduction, I see the M&P 22 as a epic fail in my eyes I would rather have a conversion kit being I would retain all the functions of my duty weapon and have the ability 2 keep my changeable backstrap in place, also I think it would be cheaper to produce the conversion kit. So get on it S&W make your customers happy also make one for the compact M&P that would be a major win in my book.

Default I got mine a few months ago

I think they are available. I bought mine in early January. Magazines are hard to find, though. I was fortunate to find 2 of them a few weeks back.

Nice little pistol. I'm planning on shooting it tomorrow and I have maybe 400 rounds through it so far with no big issues.

The grip is polymer. I guess it all depends on what your definition of frame is. There's a lot of metal in it and the slide is a good, hard aluminum piece. Feels very solid in the hand.
