Default Desantis intruder holster for M&P

I picked up a Desantis gunhide intruder holster a few days ago 49.99. So far i like it alot. It is for a M&P 9/40 but my M&P 45c fits good also. I compared it to the galco king tut and the leather is thinner and the belt clips are better on the desantis. After it get broke it it should make a good iwb holster. The M&P 45c is the FDE

I picked one up a few days ago...it was the only IWB holster the LAPD academy had for the M&P9C and while I always thought the Crossbreed-style holsters looked uncomfortable, I figured I'd give it a try. I usually use IWB holsters with a single loop as they are easy to put on and take off and work well for me.

So here's my quick review, to be followed up with more use:

On the plus side, the holster is quite comfortable when worn, though there's more surface area to catch on clothing...I think I like it more when wearing only a T-shirt (as opposed to a shirt with a white under-shirt) but I need to use it more to get a better picture over time.

The holster fits my M&P9C with CTC grips, which is a BIG plus. The draw is smooth and easy and the holster offers sufficient retention for off-duty stuff. The holster moves pretty easily along the belt which is nice for comfort but it doesn't move "too" much. due to the dual kydex clips, the holster's cant and draw angle is very stable.

On the negative side. I'm used to putting a holster on, snapping a loop and going. This holster is harder to put on, though not too hard to get off. This may or may not be an issue, but since I'm used to easy, this is a bit harder.

The lower front portion of the holster pokes me in the thigh if I position it too far forward. This is due to the size of the holster itself and while it seems very comfortable when positioned slightly further back, I'm not yet sold. Time will tell.

For now I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it, particularly if you can try it first. I'm going to wear it for at least a couple weeks and I'll post an update.

P.S....garrett09...I did the same as you and adjusted the clips for the lowest carry possible. It feels much better and more secure for me when the gun sits at this lower level compared to most higher riding IWB holsters. In that area, the Intruder gets a BIG plus!

I'm interested in buying this holster for my m&p9 and m&p9c. Are there any other users that can chime in?

Thanks in advance.

OK...Updated review...I've been using the Intruder holster for well over a month. It gets worn every day...A fair amount of standing/walking and lots of driving. I don't wear it at home (mostly) and don't wear it at work (on duty) but if I'm out and about, the M&P9C and Desantis Intruder have been going with me.

First a quick summary:

Pro:

Comfortable, retains form (easily re-holsterable), good retention, consistent draw, sweat guard, adjustable.

Con:

Overall large size, hard to put holster on quickly.

The rundown:

As I said earlier, to me this type of holster just looks "too" big and uncomfortable. That's deceiving because they are very comfortable. I've worn the holster while sitting during an 8hr seminar, for hours and hours in the car, and while walking around stores, etc. The pistol stays put and the clips seem very secure. I don't have any concern about drawing the holster with the pistol.

One of the biggest advantages of this holster is due to the widely spaced clips and large profile. The holster simply doesn't move in terms of depth or cant. I can slide it around on my belt if I need to but it stays put. Many other holsters move or rotate a bit and I find myself pushing the butt forward or back and adjusting it quite frequently. With the Intruder I never have to adjust the position because it is rock solid. Once you find the adjustment you want it's going to be there every time. Nice.

I even used the "tuckable" feature of the holster once when receiving an award at a dinner. it worked surprisingly well.

I thought the holster would work better than others without an undershirt (t-shirt and jeans type stuff) but it was about as irritating as other holsters, which is to say it's doable but not my ideal. When wearing an under-shirt with a button-up (official off-duty cop uniform...) I have to say it is the most comfortable holster I've worn. Even the con of it being difficult to put on has improved greatly. It takes some practice, but once you know the technique it's not a big deal.

I haven't used the holster with the full-size M&P, but I'll be purchasing one soon (9mm) and will try it out. Of course, I have to get to the shop to get it and wait the 10-day "I already own multiple handguns but this one might just drive me over the impulsive edge" waiting period, then test it, so it will be a while.

Here are some pics:

I use the Desantis Intruder with my Glock 26. I wanted one for my full size M&P 45 but was told that the 45 is wider than the 9mm and Desantis does not yet make an Intruder for the 45.

Is this true, is the 45 thicker in width than the 9mm M&P?

I just purchased my M&P 9mm (full sized) yesterday. Has anyone had a chance to try that with the Desantis Intruder intruder yet? I'm interested in comfort as well as printing with say a large t-shirt. Also, is 3 o'clock the normal position for carry with this, or does it work well when worn further back?

Thanks

I love the DeSantis Intruder! My first I got for my 45c...The Intruder made my 45c more comfortable and concealable than the Shield was in a Pocket-Tuk.

I have since dumped all my IWB holsters for my various handguns and switched exclusively to the Intruder - I love this holster!

Bigger is better - spreads the weight out and makes big guns feel like small guns!

The Intruder that fits the full-size 9/40 also fits the full-size 45 and 45c...I have the FS9, 45 and 45c and I carry any one of the three in the same holster...if you're wondering about the fit, they all fit the same except the 45c muzzle doesn't stick out past the bottom of the plastic part of the holster.
