Default New 9c with FTE issue

I picked up a new 9c last week and put 125 rounds through it the following day w/o any issues after the initial cleaning. This weekend I shot both my M&P9 4.25" Pro along with the 9c and had a couple of FTE with the 9c. One was with WWB and the other was with Win 147gr JHP. In one case I was able to rack the slide and the spent cartridge ejected while in the 2nd case I had to lock the slide back and manually finish removing it. I both cases they were jammed in place by the incoming round.

I really like the 9c and I shoot it about as well using the standard mag vs. the extended one so no issues there even though I'm getting a couple of the extensions for free.

I certainly admit that the problem could be the shooter and not the gun but I've got 1200 rounds through the FS w/o any issues other than a slide not locking back one time. I guess I'll put some more rounds through it and if it happens again I'll get in touch with S&W.

I had extraction issues with my 9c both times I shot it (after purchasing new). 100 rounds, 3 FTEx. Sent it in and got it back about a month later with a new barrel. I've put about 200 rnds through it since with no malfunctions.

I spoke with a S&W CSR and will probably send it in after I move in about 3 weeks so I don't have to deal with a change in address. In the meantime I'll put some more rounds through it just to make sure it's not me.

This gun should not do that. I just shot another 100 rounds today. I've had this gun over a year and have not had one fail to fire or fail to eject using any ammo I could buy. My accuracy is another thing though.

I put a bit over 200 rounds through it today with zero problems using WWB and Federal 115 FMJ so I'm going to chalk it up to it having been a hot day and I was at the end of a session so may have been too tired. If it happens again I'll send it in but for now I think it's good to go.

I've shot every type of popular ammo through my 9c and the only one that gave me a problem with extraction (about 3 or 4 in a hundred) was Winchester. If you look at the neck under the case head, you will see it's tapered more than other brands, which allows the extractor to slip off the case head. I fixed the problem by removing the extractor and using small gun files, making a more aggressive hook on the extractor, like Apex does. I also ordered the stronger extractor spring from Speed Shooter Specialties and installed it when I put the extractor back in, using a roll pin, instead of the solid pin that was in there. So far, after 600 rounds, not one malfunction and all I shoot is Winchester.

I'm curious as to why you used a roll pin vs the original solid pin. Thanks.

Because it's easier to get out the next time.
