Question about M&P 9 and .40
As I wrote in my intro thread, I'm am new to S&W's as I have always had glocks. I just got an fsM&P9 for duty use at the hospital where I work part-time. I am looking at Bianchi Accumold Vanguard holster and it states it fits the g17, g22, and M&P.40. My question is this: Is the M&P 9 and .40 the same frame size as the case of the G17 and 22? If this holster is made for the M&P.40 then the M&P9 should fit right?

Don't know about the Glocks, but the M&P 9 and 40 are identical frames. I feel sure someone can can address the Glock part of your question.

The M&P is slightly wider in the slide than the Glock. Duty holsters come in a wide variety of tolerances and some will work with multiple guns and some won't. It depends greatly on the retention device (or lack thereof). You cannot put an M&P 9mm into a Safariland duty holster made for a Glock, but you can put a Glock into a Safariland duty holster made for an M&P. I have seen more than one duty holster where they were advertised as fitting the Glock 21 .45 or M&P 9/40/45.
But if the holster fits an M&P 40, it's going to fit an M&P 9mm.

Thanks for the response. The holster I'm looking at is a simple thumb break drop in holster. So we are GTG now that ya'll have clarified the M&P frame size. Thank you all for the responses!

The only thing of concern is to beware there are both FS (full size) and C (Compact) versions of both the MP9 and MP40. The Compact versions have a smaller frame size. If you leave off the c, the gun is assummed to be a full size. Barrel is 4.25" for FS and 3.5" for c.

I have read a few places that the M&P 9/40 would fit in a Safariland G20/21 holster but don't know for sure. Anyone tried this?

Comparing the M&P45 fs to the Glock 20/21:
Based on reading somewhere that it would fit my M&P45fs, I bought a Bianchi OWB (Shadow II #7 18672) marked for a Glock 20/21. The M&P slid right in, nice and snug, right up to the last 1/4". I took a moment to enlarge the hole very slightly to clear the M&P muzzle, and that was fine. But then the thumbstrap hit the M&P beavertail and would not snap. The beavertail for the Glock is in a different place compared to the M&P. For the price I trimmed the strap a little where it goes over the back of the M&P slide and now it clears the M&P beavertail and it fits perfectly now.
Just an FYI.
