M&P Plastic case label info
Recently took delivery on a .40 M&P Pro 5". Learned from other forum posts that the paper label on the plastic case contains a code indicating date of build (0277 in my case). Close (very close) examination of this same label indicates there are very, very small letters at the very edge of the label below and just to the right of the date code. On my label they seem to be " swf.gnew ".
Anybody know if this character string tells me anything about the pistol? I suppose it could just be something to do with the label printing process - or even just a random string - but I am curious if there might be additional meaning.......

The date code equates to October 5th, 2010, which should match the test fire date on the cartridge envelope. No clue about the other but I'd guess that it's probably related to the label format the factory uses.

I have to disagree. Mine is marked 0302 which, by your calculation, would be October 29th. However, the test fire date was March 9, 2010. I'm more inclined to believe that the actual build date of mine was March 2, 2010.

Everything I've read has been that the code is formatted as YDDD where Y=last digit of mfg year and DDD=day of the year. This agrees with both my M&P 9 and 9c date codes and test fire dates. No clue why it would be different in your situation.

I bought the same M&P 40 Pro several months ago. I'm not home to check the date of manufacture, but I do know that you will love your M&P Pro. I haven't touched the trigger yet. It is right at 4 lbs. and as smooth as I've felt on a semi-auto. If you change out any trigger components on your Pro, let me know what the results are. I've been wondering if I really need to change anything out.

Just a guess, but:
s Smith
w Wesson
f Firearms or Factory
. (just a seperator)
g Gun
n \
e Just the word NEW
w /
Since S&W has so many divisions, and sell Remans,
That this is there way of identifying.
Again... Just a guess
