Default thumb safety removal

as anyone removed the thumb safety on their m&p 9c? does it change anything on the gun? or should i forget about it, and just not use it?

I would think if you had to use your weapon in a justified shooting a lawyer would question as to why you would remove a safety feature. If you don't want a thumb safety buy a model that was manufactured without one.

Just disassemble the pistol and the safety levers come out. Reassemble but don't put them back. As simple as that. There will be two small holes in the frame but someone sells fillers for them.

Sorry that's as specific as I can get as there's no safety on mine but the procedure is mentioned here frequently.

The lawyer note is complete nonsense and has nothing to do with a justified shooting.

Very easy, punch out the rear roll pin, lift out the sear housing and the thumb safety slides right out. There is also a spring and detent that you can remove on the left side of the sear housing (can be removed by finger, no tool required). Drop the sear block back in and you are good to go. G&R Tactical and speed shooters specialties sell the thumb safety frame plugs and you can also get them direct from Smith & Wesson.

The lawer thing is not an issue as Smith makes the gun both ways (with and without a thumb safety). It is a non issue.

On a side note, the thumb safety on the M&P's is only a trigger block, and has no effect on any internal parts of the weapon.

As stated, just remove the roll pin that holds the trigger block at the rear of the pistol. If you've never done that here's a link that shows it.

It's about putting in the Apex sear, but ignore that part. Once you've lifted out the block you can remove the safety and re-install the block.

Someday I will do this to my M&P-45. That safety is a joke.

10mm Sonny, I don't have a safety on my M&P, mainly because I felt how sloppy a few were when I bought.

If that's the problem you have here's a link that shows how to firm the safety up. Don't know if it works or not. Everyone I know that had the safety removed it.

Looks like it won't let me post the link, so go to the mp pistol/boards and get to Smith Work. It's pinned to the top of the section.

Affirmative on removing the manual safety on the S&W M&P. I
removed mine and called S&W and they sent the plugs for the
holes free of charge. No problem. Easy to do and S&W is glad
to send the plugs with no hassle.

Enjoy!

Does anybody know where I can buy an"extra " thumb safety for my 9c? I called S&W and they won't sell the safety by itself. I'm installing a Crimson Trace laser and have to cut off the right side of my safety. I just want an extra to put it back original, if I don't like the grips or want to sell the gun.

My "around the house" or "grubbies" M&P40C has a thumb safety because I carry one of two 1911's "outside", and prefer the commonality on the range and "in use"....

But, to be honest, it's a waste of parts in the M&P....

Mine's pretty solid, so there's no issue with flopping around, etc....

Regards.

I can't copy the link here. So, copy the below link and insert mp-pistol followed by a dot-com where the asterisks are. Should take you there.
