FDE shield 9mm without safety
I've been seeing the FDE shields coming out lately and I had a question. does S&W make an FDE shield WITHOUT the thumb safety? I'd like one, but only without a safety and I haven't run across one just yet that I can find.

If it is not on the S&W web site then it hasn't been made yet, but you can send yours and have it cerakoted there are plenty of places that specialize in refinishing guns.

ok, then it may not have been made yet. I saw pics on the net of the shield no safety version having the FDE frame, but could only find the one WITH safety on the website. I wondered why I couldn't find it on their site and could only find the safety version

Maybe if you keep asking for it without the safety some will just tell you they found one with the safety.

It's easy to remove the safety if you don't want it. Here is a link to how to do it. The switch will still be there so you won't have an an open hole and the safety will not work.

Yes, they do make the 9mm Shield in FDE with NO thumb safety, although they still do not show it on their website. I bought one yesterday at Academy Sports. I was browsing the Academy site and noticed the FDE Shield. No information in the specifications, but the picture clearly showed the pistol with no thumb safety, and showed it to be in stock at the local store, which it was.
Price was $389, $10 cheaper than the no thumb safety black model (go figure).

I forgot. Product number is 10179. If you enter it into the search on S&W website, it comes back "no results".

Illusive but out there. Maybe an Academy exclusive? They have 3 in stock here.
Look at the feedback photo.

Wouldn't do me any good because I put Talon grips on mine. LOL

Removing the tab on the safety while keeping the safety lever is a really bad idea. I can imagine someone looking at the gun with the safety lever in the "safe" position and thinking the gun is safe when it is not.

I paid the same price for my FDE Shield 9 non-safety at Academy yesterday.
With S&W's Summer Rebate program going on now, you also can receive 2 extra magazines, 2 boxes S&W ammunition, and a magazine loader tool for free with purchase of a qualifying firearm. A good deal, I thought.

It's actually Hornady ammo. Register your rebate asap because it takes a while. 10-12 weeks.
I have 2 new M&P's and filled mine out online a month ago.

According to the salesman at Academy it's an Academy exclusive.
I use Sporstmans all the time and they don't have the FDE without thumb safety. I called them.
