Default M&P pro 40 cal to a 9 conversion barrel?

I recently purchased an M&P 40 pro (first gun ever!) and was telling a friend i was thinking about purchasing a 9mm when he told me about the conversion barrels.

I was wondering if someone could tell me what all i would need so it doesnt blow up in my face.

Can i just purchase the 9mm pro barrel and 9mm mags?

Or will i need to get a new spring, slide, etc?

Thanks!

You are going to have to buy a 9mm conversion barrel-not the M&P
9mm Pro barrel. Try Storm Lake, KKM, or EFK FireDragon. Yes, you will have to buy the 9mm magazines.

Thanks for the response ... Since the pro series have a 5 inch barrel, im thinking i should be looking for a 5 inch conversion barrel but cant seem to find one, am i right about this? All i see is the 4.25 inch 9 barrels

The 5" Pro M&Ps are specifically set up for competition, and neither IDPA nor USPSA allow conversion barrels for competition in Stock or Production.
Nobody has told me directly, but I suspect that's why 5"conversion barrels for these two models aren't common: not much demand, compared to the 4.25" bbl.

Did you go to Storm Lake's webpage. They do have 9mm conversion barrels for the S&W 40 Pro-two different sizes 5.01 inch and extended 5.70 inch for threaded barrels. I would post a link but have been burned several times here for posting links. Check your pm's.

I have an M&P 40c that I want to convert to 9mm to keep expenses down at the range. Can't I just get a 9mm barrel from S&W? Why pay double the price for one from Storm Lake, KKM, or EFK FireDragon?

I know one has to get the mags too, but I am wondering about the barrels.

You have to buy a conversion barrel! The 9mm barrel from S&W will not work in the .40C. That's why they call them conversion barrels!!!
