Default Which 45C Magazine for Carry

I'm wondering which magazine base plate configuration most 45C carriers are using for carry. I seem to shoot both the flush and extended pinkie mag just fine, because I am used to carrying a Colt Defender and full size 1911. Actually they both seem to conceal equally well. I can't help but believe under stress I will want all the grip I can get in my hand.

I'm curious as to what others are carrying for a base plate config on your 45C, and spare magazine also.

Thanks

I replaced the flat base with the pinkie base on my 40c. My thinking is under stress I want all my fingers on the grip when drawing, presenting and firing.

myanof, are you carrying your M&P yet?
How is ist in terms of comfort compared to your 1911?

I carry an officer's model 1911, and am considering getting an M&P for carry, not sure whether a 9c or 45c

I am carrying the 45C, in fact it spent the day on my hip at the State Fair of Texas, and I can honestly say it is very comfortable in my new Minotaur MTAC as pictured below.

I have about 500 rounds through the 45C, and it has proven 100% reliable shooting 230 Golden Saber non bonded and bonded, 230gr Ranger T (which my personal 1911s won't feed reliably), factory ball, and a ton of reloaded ball.

As far as comfort comparisons between 1911s and the 45C, in my opinion there is nothing more comfortable than a 1911 due to its thin profile, but with the proper thin holster the 45C is a close second. Worn at 4:00 with my Minotaur, and loosening one belt notch works out perfectly for me in jeans or shorts.

I have been testing both base plates on the magazines, and although I can carry and shoot both, I am leaning towards the pinkie extension because due to the design it hides well, and upon draw there is a slight advantage of getting a good grip without shifting my hand.

This was a bit lengthy, but in my opinion this is an excellent rig for carry if you are used to a 1911. I feel like I am sacrificing a good trigger for a 100% reliable small lightweight 45 carry gun. Not a bad trade off. With all of that said, if trouble breaks out I hope I am carrying my full size 1911, but that comes from a 20 year companionship. This testimonial comes from a guy who carries a 1911 in one of the most comfortable rigs known to man which is a Brommeland Max Con V also shown below for comparison.

I hope this helped.

I thought the pinky extensions were silly until I tried both. With the pinky I have a near normal grip and with the flush base pad all I hear is the little voice saying 'you are holding a compact'. Negligible difference in carry comfort as far as I am concerned.

I find flat base magazines conceal better. If I'm going to carry a longer magazine I'd like more cartridges, please.

The sharp eyed will note these pistols are neither M&Ps nor .45ACP, but you get the idea. (The larger magazine of the USP9 will fit the P2000SK.)

Same grip length. 13 vs 10 cartridges.

Same length 13 and 13.

Not same length 13 and 13. Rather silly.

Sorry, I carry pinky extension mag. With that mag installed it feels very close to the 9FS that I train with and shoot in competition. If it does not conceal as well, so be it.

My feeling is you are splitting hairs comparing concealability of extended base vs. flat base. But drawing my 45C and having it grip nearly the same as my FS rigs keeps muscle memory working in my favor.
