Default Help needed installing safety plugs

Well, I don't think 'Safety Plug' is the proper nomenclature, but I received the plugs to cover the holes where I removed my thumb safety from an M&P .45 ..... Just by looking at these, it seems the right side may just snap in, and it looks like the left side goes under the sear housing some how.

Any advice or youtube links? I'm pretty comfortable taking this gun down, but am hoping this is a lot easier than I'm thinking it is.

Thanks in advance,

nogoodnamesleft

-Also THANK YOU SMITH AND WESSON!!!! These were absolutely no charge to me for the parts or the shipping.

Well I've got the plugs installed easy enough .... but getting the sear housing into place is so difficult (I've learned not to force things ......) .... so what do you guys think? Just some careful fanegaling or am I just doing something wrong?

Ok, it comes down to having the sear housing 4mm or so from being seated, placing the left side plug and having it tapped in at an angle. Once it starts to seat, tap it in the middle while sliding the sear housing down with your thumb.

Here's a newly plugged safety free M&P .45

Glad you got it, nice work. I remember it was a bit difficult installing the plugs because they fit so well.

I just got the plugs. I am going to get the safety out and dremel then smooth out. It looks like the right one is all I need right now. Is the sear difficult to seat because of the left plug? Would it be easier if not installing the left plug? Thanks! I installed the laserlyte rear laser sight and it was not easy. Horrible dove tail match. It carved the finish off the sight. I think I will put nightsights in and order the ct laser grips.

You can install both plugs and sear housing goes in easy if you remove the small metal piece and spring that fits in the left of sear housing. Just push forward against spring and it comes right out. It's only needed to hold thumb safety in place.

Here's small metal piece and spring I'm talking about.

Here's my M&P 9mm full size with plugs installed.

I called customer service and told them I just bought a M&P 9mm and my thumb safety was to easy to move up and down so I removed it and needed a set of frame plugs. They sent them out free of charge and no shipping.

Does anyone know if this procedure can be reversed?
I would like to install a thumb safety on my M &P 45c. I doubt S&W would sell me one, so I havent looked into this. I bought mine used and it didnt have the safety. I would like to have one to stay in tune with my 1911.
thanks to all repies.

Your frame would have to be one that was designed for the thumb safety with the cut outs already in frame. I'm sure a gunsmith would cut frame with a dremel and install a thumb safety. Give S&W customer service a call and see if they would do it for you, it would be easy.

A factory Armorer instructor told me that the guns go out serial numbered by type and they would not convert safety to non-safety guns or alter magazine safety features. I've seen folks here's come up with the parts to make a frame already cut work, but I'm betting against S&W cutting the frame for you. But then again, some things seem to depend on who picks up the phone when you call them. Considering shipping, though, wouldn't it be cheaper just to swap for a TS model?
