Default Woman carry issues

I'm looking to carry my MP40c and I'm running into problems like a lot of women I'm just not as petite my build is curvy and i need a holster for in my pants I plan on shoulder and maybe a custom thigh later. My waist being so narrow makes it hard for a waist holster. Any websites that google isn't easily showing me. I would never carry in a purse by the way because that's just asking to have it used on me.

OK I will try to help with your concealment issue, but I feel I I did when I went to the store to buy some panties for my wife who is now dead, of natural causes two years ago but also was into guns as are all our daughters!

There is a Flashbang bra holster @ this link Inside The Pants Holster | The Shooter's Log The writer of this article gives a pretty in depth report of this holster and seems to like it so it may be an option for you!

Unfortunately that won't work due to my build and the fact I'm losing weight I got fat when the women in my shop were kept out of maintenance.

Perhaps I should ask one of my daughters about this issue and get back with you!

You are not the only one who suffers from "equipment-itis",as anyone who departs from the 6 foot tall mid waist male body type can have a hard time finding properly fitting gear.

Im a man with a 28" waist-yes I eat a lot, but working out with a high metabolism equates to being thinner than the girls ive dated-which causes problems for carrying spare mags.

Having a pair of double stack mags on my belt results in it looking like I'm hiding a small laptop computer my shirt.

Having an OWB holster becomes uncomfortable due to the need to cinch my gunbelt extremely tight, or the weapon will 'flop' on the belt as I walk. Adding two mags and the gun on my waist results in a tight belt, print lines on my stomach, and the need for a jacket at all times.

IWB is much more comfortable, but it doesn't solve the spare magazine dilemma.

So I recommend to you the system I use as I type this, a Miami Classic II shoulder rig.Unless you live somewhere extremely hot odds are you can pull off wearing a covering garment that can go over the holster and gun, plus women have a better cross-body reach than men do so a draw would be easier.

A word of caution-Unless your concealed carry gun is a derringer .22LR, no matter what choice of gun you pick modifications in your wardrobe and appearance will be necessary. Trendy women's fashions with skin tight options won't work with concealed carry. If it is any consolation even men have to modify their clothing selections when they carry frequently.

Another truism is that modern society is too ADD to notice if youre concealed carrying. Most people are in condition 'White' and wouldn't notice if you were open carrying in a lot of cases, to say nothing of concealed carry.

When you start carrying a gun frequently the first few times it feels like everyone has X-ray vision and can ID where your firearm is asap. In real life ive had people hug me and not know I was armed.

Hopefully that helps on your journey, because it will take time to find the 'right' holster that works for you.

If you want to belt carry, ISW or OSW you can't wear "Hip" Jeans. Get the belt line up around your real waist and things will improve. Pardon me for forwardness but, shoulder holsters generally do not serve well for "big busted women" only you can decide that issue. You have to dress for concealed carry, not carry for what you wear. With me naturally having large hips (5'4" 162lbs 38-30-41) I'll be selfconcious about it and I can see my self looking in the mirror and immediately thinking super troopers. "Who, that little guy? I wouldn't worry about that little guy."

I have a Super Tuck and it is quite comfortable no matter how I wear it so for all day carry it it versatile and you should be able use it in most situations. I carry a Full sized 9mm M&P with mine and it is great and not that costly!

This is my personal opinion so you can try one out and if you do not like it then send it back for a refund. Try out the different cants in different positions and you might only have to buy just this one holster as it is great for carry, but the retention is not like the Serpa retention of a BlackHawk!

I haven't found much in the way of a good carry system yet. I have a belt holster that for the most part isn't going to work.

I watched the Flash Bang Bra holster ad on you tube and that looked like a terrible idea. I can't imagine a gal looking at that and thinking she'd try it.

Here's the one holster I thought would work best for my wife, as having something on her hip doesn't work and the crossbreed type I use she doesn't care for.

When my wife carried a belt holster and wore it on her hip at 3:00, she found that the gun (Glock 19) tilted inward at the top and dug into her side. I suggested that she move it around to the back of her hip at approximately 4:00 or 4:30, and that seemed to solve the problem for her.

BTW, I think that with either a OWB or IWB holster, you're going to have to wear a sturdy belt. Lightweight belts will allow the holster to shift on your body, which will be uncomfortable and will make drawing the pistol more difficult.

There are all kinds of holsters that would offer good concealment for you, like Thunderwear or belly band holsters, but most of them dramatically increase the time it takes to present the weapon.

Luckily when not in uniform I wear a mens leather belt that stayed ingrained in me after being an auto mechanic where I needed something durable if I managed to needed something that could handle everything.

Oh and I saw thunderwear courtesy of my best friend. He was gonna get it for his girlfriend but I'm a bith larger through the hips so jeans that actually fit properly fall flat in the front. I think it would either be really uncomfortable or I would have an awkward bulge there and trust me its bad enough at work they tease me because my husband has the luxury of staying at home right now and I'm a female mechanic and I play video games and like Jeeps and sports cars and other such things along the more "masculine" lines.

If you look at the Mitch Rosen site you will see they make holsters to fit the "female waist/hip line". They are pricey, but they do not dig into the side of the female like most holsters (made for men).

I suggest a good belt also, not the flimsey kind you can get at Walmart.

The suggestion to buy/try the "supertuck" is a great idea as you have two weeks to try it. The supertuck with the combat cut is what I prefer. You can see at their website the difference in the leather cut.

My daughter and I both have the Galco Tuc N Go inside the pant holster for our 9c's. My daughter is exactly your size. We wear them at 4 oclock. Actually they are very comfortable, even when driving. You need to have an undershirt or camisole under against your skin to make it more comfortable. Super easy to use under a big shirt, sweatshirt, or jacket. They are $30 so it's an easy inexpensive way to figure out a carry process before buying a more expensive iwb holster. I was going to order a crossbreed super tuck in the future because it completely covers the 9c so that you do not have it against your skin. In the meantime, when I can have an extra layer under this is perfect.

Try the Crossbreed Super Tuck. It works great!

If you don't like it, send it back.

Many people have a hard time with holsters because they have **** for belts. You must start with a great belt before you can really asses a holster. They are pricey but it will be a decade before you get another, and will adjust it for you if you need it smaller at some point: THE BEST: Gun Belts by The Belt Man

I would try a IWB hybrid. No frills (well, some if you would like). Highly adjustable. Great quality. Woulnt break the bank: WHITE HAT PRODUCTS
Notice at 1:00 in this video how many holes there are for clip adjustment. Then notice how little there is in the other IWB compared. You really can move and twist it around.. There is a break in period. It's gets really comfy once the leather forms to your body.

Well I finally stopped in the local western wear store and asked about belts and was told to bring my holster and gun back and I can go ahead and try on belts until I find one that fits my needs and if I find one that isn't quite my size they will order the right size for me quite a few belts there are bullhide.

Excellent U-Tube video... thanks! I just discovered this post, having just joined the S&W forum a couple days ago. I really like this method of carry since I am a well endowed & curvy lady and I don't wear belts, this particular type of carry intrigues me... right now, I'm just using a "sticky" in my front right jeans pocket or inside the waist band, which does an amazing job and is quite versatile. Thanks, bunches... Karen

My wife has a tiny waist and wide hips. One of the King Tuk holster work just fine as long as she stays away from low rider pants.

The Mitch Rosen Nancy Special is a great holster for women, albeit pricey.

I too am a woman. However I am curvier than you.. I have a 9c and the most comfortable holster that I have found for IWB is the N82 Pro made by N82tactical.com. It has zero edges that poke me when I sit or stand. The back is padded, so the gun does not irritate my skin. It also fully covers the back of the gun, so no part of the gun is against my skin. It is sweat proof thanks to the neoprene in the backing. Plus it has excellent retention. You have to twist the gun slightly towards you to release it. It took me about 2 seconds to learn the motion. It just helps prevent someone from coming behind you and taking your gun. It also keeps the gun in the holster no matter what you do. I also have a sticky type holster for my 9c (as in both a Remora and Sticky brands). While they both work when I am wearing yoga type pants, I feel like the 9c is too heavy for this type of carry. I weighted mine on my digital postage scale and loaded it is 1:15.2 lbs. With the sticky type of holster, I always felt like it was going to fall to the ground. It never did, but it felt like it to me. To solve this issue, I also bought and carry (more than my 9c now) a Sig Saur 938. It weighs a lot less, almost half the weight loaded. I do not have the capacity that I do with the 9c, but I can comfortably carry it when wearing clothes that do not have belts.

Recently a woman accidentally shot and killed herself with a bra holster. For me it's like the appendix carry with the barrel pointed at your junk.

I would pass on the bra holsters.

My wife does carry a lot in a fanny pack. Just regular ones that don't make you look like you carry.

Default Dress for success.

Nothing helped me conceal carry more than getting loose fitting tops. The form fitting ones are a give away. High belt line jeans help keep the grip in the small of your waist. A real gun belt (more rigid than regular belt) also keeps things in place and comfortable. An IWB 4 o'clock carry works for me. Spare mag in a horizontal carrier bulges less. I live in the south also, so outer cover garments are rare. No holster works as good as a revised clothing mindset. Also, a high neckline is a must at the range to keep hot brass out of my cleavage. A tiny back-up pistol gets called on when tighter garments are worn.

I'm going to second the response that said the Belt Man is tops for carry belts. A gunbelt is far and above the first thing to look at. You can have an incredible holster, designed to work properly and built like it should be. But if the belt you use is just a plain leather belt off the rack, the holster will not impress you. Your gun will move around, and try to pull your pants down. With a REAL gunbelt, the difference is night and day. He offers different sizes, different colors, different leathers ,patterns etched into the leather and different buckles as well.
I was amazed when I got my first one how stiff it was compared to a normal leather belt off the rack. I carry a full sized 1911 on it regularly, and hardly notice it's there. So start with that...it will greatly affect how anything you carry will feel to you.

My wife is also sort of pear shaped. And she has used a blade tech UCH inside the waistband holster.First with a glock 27 now with a 3913 ladysmith. When she wears a dress she uses a gun goddess can can holster which is a thigh holster. She loves both off them.

I'm a woman and here are the holsters that work really well for me, after a lot of trial and error.

Stealthgear IWB, very comfortable and does not sweat against your skin has excellent concealment.

PJ Holster IWB kydex. Excellent retention and concealment, reasonably priced.

Wright Leather Works OWB, Pancake. Beautiful leather, excellent retention, quality handmade holsters and very good concealment for an OWB with a cover garment.

Like others have said, a good belt is crucial and Wright Leather Works makes a great belt, as well.

Default Some bra holsters...

I'm no expert but I've seen bra holsters that 'dangle' the gun that look like they would point about anywhere. I think the woman that shot herself had one of these. The other type looked like a holster for a small gun and didn't allow the gun so much freedom to swing and pivot around. I can't remember who it was but a gal demonstrated several kinds of carry on youtube. The ones that stood out were the ankle holster (I don't know how anybody can use one of these) and the bra holster, which she demonstrated drawing in really quick fashion. She was thorough and informative in her demo.

I've about decided that a should carry would be right for me for several reasons, not the least in that I can't keep my pants up for beans and my son thinks suspenders are really un-cool.

If you read the gun magazines there are ads for the Kramer Confidant shirt holster. It shows both sexes wearing them. This is an EXTREMELY comfortable holster. Gun goes under my left arm, with a spare mag under my right. I am wearing it now with a Glock and a spare mag. This is my constant summer carry rig. I leave the top two buttons open on my shirt and can draw very quickly. Gun never prints.
It will work with most semi-autos and S&W J-Frames.
I highly recommend it.

My wife is 5' 5", a little baby fat, large breasted with delightfully woman shaped hips. Her arms aren't overly long either, so finding her a CC holster was a bit of a challenge. Fortunately for us the owner of the LGS is a good friend and carries a good selection of different holsters that he allowed us to try in a back room before we bought hers.

After having a good friend shot thru her left breast while doing yard work wearing a "bra" holster I certainly would not recommend one. (my wife was seriously looking at one of these before this incident. She actually saw the bullet wound)

I will come in third or forth recommending a good, Kydex re-enforced belt for belt carry. A good belt is just as important as a good holster.

Breast, large or small, and shoulder holsters don't mix. A pack of cigarettes in a man's shirt pocket can get in the way of a clean draw so you can imagine...... Barrel-chested or pot-bellied men have the same problem.

"Crotch" carry holsters can pinch when you sit, so try one before you shell out the cash for one.

In you photo you appear to be "long waisted", in country boy terms. (taller between the top of your shoulder and point of your hip) This is an advantage to you as your arm length is generally longer too.

What works best for my Mrs. is a *** style holster worn just to the rear of the point of her hip. She didn't care for the IWB holsters so we went with Galco's *** for both her S&W 640 and Glock 19, either worn with a Looper Kydex/leather belt. After a little practice her draws were smooth and her grip consistent when she cleared the holster. Blocking the gun by dropping her arm is easy with this holster.

Good luck finding what you need.

Rob

*** = small of back

You might try the belly band style.
Get one with the shouder strap to carry the weight.
They fit over the ribs above the wast and hips.
A non fitted shirt, not tight at wast.

Will not pretend I am an expert.
I have taught many women to carry and shoot defensively.
Some were quite rotund, or excessively skinny.
The answer for some of them was a change in clothing style. Blouses, jackets or vests that overhang the waist allowed use of holsters. Simple changes also allowed use of belly bags.

I knew only one woman who used a shoulder holster. She was mid to late 20s, and had a curvy figure and large breasts. She could conceal a Sig 228 under a shorty jacket, but I think of her as the exception.

One woman who was in her early 30s was quite thin and worked in an office where she wore a woman's business suit. She could carry a Sig 229 in a belly bag under her suit coat.

A lawyer I taught to shoot carried a Colt Detective Special (one of mine until she got her own!) in an IWB holster under the suit she wore into court. She was 5' 9", 140 lbs.

A friend from my teen years carried, as an adult in her 40s, a Walther PPK (not a PPKS) in a garter holster. She was about 5' 10', 140 lbs. That is a HEAVY gun for such carry, but she pulled it off.

I stridently discouraged off-body carry. The wife of a medical professional approached me (she was a friend of the lawyer) when her husband when nutso and battered her, and threatened to kill her. He was able to avoid an injunction by means of expensive lawyers.
She ran a studio frequented by artsy people and just could not come up with a way to conceal the S&W 686+ she chose(!), on her body. She had a floral-pattern knit bag she felt she could carry most of the time, and we worked out an Uncle Mike's holster, custom fit to it for her. She would still set it down far too often to suit me, but the former husband never again entered her house or studio after he learned she was armed.
