The only real gripe I have with my MP 40 Pro is when inserting a mag with the slide foward I get a click that tells me it's in securely. When the mag is emptied and the slide is locked back I don't get the same click when putting in the new magazine, so I wonder if it's locked in. To be honest after well over 1K rounds a new magazine has never fallen out but I sure would love to hear the click. I use nothing but S&W factory magazines so is this normal?
All I can say is that after inserting your magazine you should pull on it if you are uncertain that it is fully engaged. I always give my magazine a little not too hard slap which sometimes especially if the gun is held at a 45 degree angle will auto forward and be ready to go!
When the slide is locked open, there is no resistance to keep the magazine from locking in quickly and easily and it does effortlessly. When the slide is closed, you have to use enough force to compress the rounds in the magazine, which allows, just barely, enough room for the magazine to lock in, making the click you hear. BTW, there are no after market M&P magazines. We all use Factory mags. Bob!

Hmmm, thats odd, my M&P9 mag catch snaps in just as loud no matter if the slide is back or forward, or if the mag is full or empty. Same goes for all my other pistols.
