Default Take down lever

Anyone else having problems with their M&P take down lever?

After 500 rounds or so the take down lever no longer stays down while disassembly, which would be just fine if I had a third hand when tearing down the pistol. I own three and it is a problem with all of them plus a friend- ditto. Of the four guns two are full size and two are 5 inch pro's -all are 9mm.

I would order new springs and levers if I thought that they would fix the problem for more than a month.

Anyone???

Factory says, 'Send 'em in" but I'd rather be shooting.

Left hand holds the frame , left side facing up with thumb holding down the lever. Right hand grasps the slide and moving right to left removes the slide. Three hands not required.

I recently bought a M&P9 standard size 4.25" barrel but have only run a few mags thru it.
So far my lever stays down on it's own.
I will report back if this changes after more use which should be fairly soon.

Common issue with both full size & compact M&P's. It's being discussed in a thread on the other M&P forum right now. Both of mine do it. I just lock the slide back, rotate my grip hand to where my thumb can reach and hold the lever down and then release the slide with my left hand.

Default Pinching ??

In another thread on this issue someone mentioned pinching the guide rod and barrel together when the slide is locked back would stop this from happening, but in mine thats when the lever flips back up.

Also wonder if anyone else's lever automatically flips back down upon re-assembly when you rack the slide ? Mine does.

I see there is a little nub or tit on the forward side of the takedown pin where it contacts the guide rod. It looks like it is machined that way and may have an effect on how the lever operates.

If you guys pay attention to the guide rod and make sure its flush against the barrel before reassembly you won't have this problem. The reason it does it after 500rds is because the springs are broken in!

What do you mean by "flush against the barrel"?

When you go to reassemble your gun push the guide rod against the barrel to make sure its seated down against it. This is what a previous poster was talking about when he said to "pinch the guide rod against the barrel."

Whats happening is the guide rod is in place (but not flush against the barrel) so when you go to rack the slide during reassembly the guide rod catches the take down lever.

Mine has done it since day one. I just hold it down with my left thumb and release the slide with my right thumb. I found it annoying for a second but its not as bad as other firearms where you have to line up a notch in order to fight to push a clip out hehe

Mine does the same thing. I just use my right thumb to keep it down.

I pull the trigger to remove the slide. Just like a Glock. Bothering with the little lever inside makes no sense at all and removing the "tool" from the frame even less sense.
