Sear Disconnect Lever
So, I've found that apparently I can pull the trigger on my M&P9c after engaging the take down lever and allowing the slide to come forward instead of diddling the sear disconnect lever.
This was found by accident, as I had just taken down and cleaned my XD45, and was still in the XD mindset.
Does this cause any damage to the weapon's internal components?
Thanks in advance.

The sear will hold the slide on the frame. operating the disconnect or pulling the trigger will both do the same job.

in fact you can completely remove the sear disconnect and the pin holding it along with any type of mag safety that may be there.
That whole part of the sear block is only there as a safety.
Obviously its not a good SAFE idea, which is why its there, but just saying.... it IS doable....
I actually like the sear disconnect because it takes out the "oops" factor and 100% garantees you wont have a ND

The "trigger takedown" is well documented. There are even a number of youtube videos on the subject.

Sigh, S&W put the sear disconnect in there to make positively, absolutely sure that no one could fire the weapon while field stripping it. A mistake demonstrated all too frequently with pistols of other design.

This cannot be a correct statement.
The only M&P I have that will not break down by pulling the trigger has a mag safety. With the mag safety the trigger will not operate without a mag in the well, and the slide won't come off with mag in the well. So you have to both remove the mag and flip the sear disconnect.
Without a mag safety the M&P breaks down just fine by pulling the trigger. And my M&P's without mag safeties have sear disconnects also.
So while S&W put sear disconnects in their M&P's, they can easily be broken down by pulling the trigger which means S&W did not put the sear disconnect in there to make positively, absolutely sure that no one could fire the weapon while field stripping it. They put it there as an alternate means of breaking down the gun.
The trigger is fully functional on an M&P without a mag safety.

His point wasn't that it's impossible to break it down by pulling the trigger. The point of the sear disconnect lever was to prevent shooting yourself while taking it apart. Glocks you HAVE to pull the trigger to take the slide off. No need to check the chamber and put your pinky finger in there to push a lever. Just pull the trigger. People have shot themselves cleaning a gun with glocks. Smith and Wesson put the sear disconnect lever in there and tell you to push it down in the instructions so you HAVE TO make sure the chamber is clear. While it's possible to take it apart, and doesn't harm the gun, without activating this lever...the intentions were to prevent someone from trying to field strip a loaded gun.

Sorry, but I read this as written: "S&W put the sear disconnect in there to make positively, absolutely sure that no one could fire the weapon while field stripping it. "
Positively and absolutely sure NO ONE COULD fire the weapon means exactly what it says, and it's wrong.
The fact is, anyone CAN fire the weapon while field stripping it, unless it has a mag disconnect. So letting this go uncorrected would be misleading. Just saying....

it could be a pita but it is a safety feature. i double check chamber, then i pull the trigger just like my glocks.

I pull the trigger to remove the slide. Just like a Glock. Bothering with the little lever inside makes no sense at all and removing the "tool" from the frame even less sense.

So you're saying with the sear disconnect in the down position and a round in the chamber you can pull the trigger and fire the weapon?

OK, my comment was poorly written. It is true if you read the owners manual and follow the field stripping directions as holy writ.
HOWEVER: S&W did install the sear disconnect lever so that: 1. The field stripping directions do not include the need to pull the trigger. 2. Using the sear disconnect lever forces one to lock or hold the slide in the open position and clear the chamber. 3. The sear disconnect lever lowers the sear so it cannot engage the striker.
I will also note that using the trigger to release the slide may work, it shows a poor regard for following directions.

I don't know why you have to remove the "little tool" to push the sear disconnect lever. Just reach in with the tip of your little finger and press it sown. Or the retracted tip of a ballpoint pen, or the eraser end of a pencil, or a large house key, or any number of commn objects. It doesn't require a specific tool, guys.

LOL! I'll give you that!
I have several M&P's and the mag disconnect fell out of the one that had it. So now I can remove the slide by pulling the trigger.
I know, if I shoot my toe off it will be my own fault.
