Default M&P 1905 help

I have an S&W M&P .38 1905 pistol, with a serial number D257XXX. It has pearl handles and is in good shape, was wondering what the age and possible the value. Thanks for any information.

Welcome to the forum. Guns with serial numbers starting "D2" were coming out of the factory in 1970. The factory would probably have identified your gun as a Model 10-6, which is to say sixth design or production change to the Model 10 (which is how these guns were first labeled in 1957). You should see a stamp MOD 10-6 or something similar on the concealed frame surface when you swing the cylinder open.

Value depends on condition. Maybe $275-375. Local availability and demand has a lot to do with pricing.

Don't be surprised if a moderator moves your post to a different section of the forum. The "M&P" designation is applied today to a line of S&W semi-autos, which is what this subforum serves. This thread would find a better home in the 1961-1980 forum in the revolver section.
