While I still use Hoppe's to clean, I don't lube the moving parts with Rem Oil any more. Here in Florida, after a few weeks, the gun's lube points would be dry, so now I use Tetra grease. However, after a clean & lube, I will still spray the outside of the gun with Rem Oil. GARY

Aero Kroil, 3 in 1, Ballistol, Rem Oil, WD-40, etc. I stay with the tried and true and why buy new when I inherited all of my fathers lubes when he passed. The amounts I have, I imagine my boy will be getting some of these when I pass. I have 50 year old guns from my dad that look 50 days old. Says something about these non designer lubricants.

Kroil is very good. Works great as both a cleaner, and a lube.

I like a little touch of Shooter's Choice Gun Grease on the slide rails. Other than that its Hoppes 9 and CLP for me!

I use denatured alcohol in the striker channel about every 500-800 rounds.

Ball bearing grease on the slide. Synthetic motor oil on the barrel. The combined price is $10 and will last for years. Doesn't smell as minty fresh as FrogLube but works great and doesn't bust the bank.

There are those folks who will grab a soapbox and spout "I ONLY use Dr.Pulltheotherone's patented, psychic approved magic gun poultice. Guaranteed to clean, lube, exfoliate, reduce inflammation, stop that painful itch, take the redness out, extend your barrel, reduce bathroom trips, repel boarders, balance "chi", slowly take the gray out and leave you feeling "fresh" all day.

And then there's my hero, Muss Muggins who swears by pig fat and German soldiers.

So what you're saying is my use of what sticks to the "pop top" of the synthetic high temp water proof grease tubes I use for mowers and other equipment won't do all the things you list and using that on things that slide is why I can't hit the broadside of a barn? Thank you for clearing that up

Use a little grease of it floats your boat. A dab of axle grease on the slide inserts isn't going to hurt but oil is probably enough.

Rem Oil with magical Teflon and the other dry lubes won't cut it.

I'm amazed at the manufacturers of products that claim to be made of miracle substances like the stuff is made from unicorn testicle extract. I've stopped drinking the koolaid.

I can guarantee you all of the "gun" branded products you are paying two to thee times the price for is made from common materials. Look at some of the MSDS.

Just about any oil works better than nothing and some just as well as name brands. ATF, motor oil, 3 in 1, take your pick. Don't over-think it.

Ballistol MSDS:

Quote:
Ballistol is based on medicinal grade white mineral oil
I found out from the MSDS my Hoppes Elite gun oil is pure, odorless, biodegradable mineral oil. I lube my pistols and AR15 BCGs with it and the oil stays slick and in place for hundreds, maybe thousands of rounds if I didn't clean it off. You don't have to trust me. You can trust Hoppes.

Pure mineral oil can be had for 25-50¢ per ounce.

Slide Glide regular, tiny dabs... that's all that's needed IMO.

High moly paste bonds with friction to the metal and is extremely slick. I use a toothpick to put a small amount on to any sliding surface with amazing results. Honda 60 is one brand or you can pick it up here Super Moly Paste. This small pot is enough for years of use
I use a Texaco Moly grease too!. I use only the slightest amount on the rails of my guns which are all steel. I don't own any polymer frames. Actually, when I'm done, you can't even see the the film of grease. After each shooting I clean it all off and reapply. Been doing this for years on my Sig, 1st Gens, 3rd Gens, 1911s and others and will continue to do so.

Default Grease

Grease is fine on the rails but go easy. Only a light coat.

Well there you go. That was easy.
I may as well throw my choice in here. I stopped using grease a long time ago unless it's a severe condition requirement.
Mobil One full synthetic oil for me.

You can find a fine selection of quality products through Midway or Brownells (google them).

I have been using Tetra Gun Grease for many years and never have a problem with it. It gets cold here in the winter (below freezing tempts) and very hot in the summer (lot of 90+ days with a good mix 100 degree ones). Tetra Gun Grease doesn't get hard in the winter and doesn't get runny in hot weather.

I get my oil for free. I simply drain the last few drops of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil into a squeeze bottle when I change the oil in my vehicles. A few small drops on the trigger and hammer pins and springs goes a long way.

The problem I have with using oil on the rails is over time it will run off making it necessary to reoil the gun if it has been stored for a while.

I use Ballistol for all of my firearms, cleaning and lube, and have had zero problems so far. Now, that being said, I don't shoot near as much as I am sure that you guys/gals on here do, so take that for what it is worth.

I have used many of the Lubes of the day mentioned above. My go to is CLP but I have been using 10w30 Synthetic motor oil. Works just as good as anything else and cheaper by volume. A pint will last you a lifetime.

Another vote for tetra grease here. I rub a very thin film on all the guns contact points after each cleaning. The slide on my m&p compact still looks new after about 2000 rounds.

Tetra grease is also insensitive to cold or hot temperatures. I love it.

I've read a ton of positive things about frog lube but I've never tried it.

Check out Hickok45's youtube channel- he swears by Ballistol, he probably shoots more in a week then most of us do in a year. I've been using it exclusively for past few years on all my firearms with great results.

Viscosity is lost (brokedown/breakdown) through shear forces that destroy the molecules (heat helps that process along)

In the heat of the az. desert. Oil seems to migrate. So after a short time you end up with dry rails. I got tired of this. I have used white lithium grease on my subgun ar's and ak's for several years with very good results. I started useing this grease on 1911's and hi powers. With very good results! I have been useing it on my c.o.r.e. and 9c. As said above little goes along way. Very cold weather I dont think it is a good choice. But here in the hot desert? All I use on autos

Take yer pick. As long as it's lubricated you're golden. People stress way too much about what to use for lubrication. Cleaning too, for that matter.
