Default Close to pulling trigger on 40c - Need a sanity check

I have it down to one of the following from Buds Police Supply:
1. M&P40c with night sights ($455)
2. M&P40c with standard sights, but with CT laser grip ($548)

Weapon is for CCW and home defense. I currently own a 9c with night sights, and my wife likes the 9c. The 40c will be mainly for me.

I do not really need a CT, but the price is really cheap if I get a gun that already has it installed from the factory. I can also put the CT on the 9c to help improve my wife's shooting skills (training) at the range.

Of course, night sights are nice but there is a part of me that thinks a CT grip will be better than night sights alone.

Whatcha think? I know that only I can make the decision, but looking for advice anyway.

Thanks...

A lot of people will tell you to go with the CT over night sights for personal/home defense. The reason simply is that if it comes down to it the laser is a lot easier to put on target than acquiring the sights. You can shoot semi-accurately from the hip with a CT while you have no idea if you'll hit the target with night sights while shooting from the hip. I tend to support this argument too; however I'm ordering a viridian c5l because I wanted the tactical light as well.

I would buy with the CT, if you have the money. And if you don't like them you could easily sell them and recoup some money back and have your other choice with a few extra bucks in your pocket.

The only laser gun I have is the BG380, and I don't use the laser, but the one time I tried it I could hit anything! Very easy to use, I may consider one on my next gun.

If the price is good (I don't know what they should cost) go for it!
I ordered my M&P9c with the night sights and I like them just fine, but I can see how a good laser would be nice on a HD gun.

If your wife is not a real "gun girl," why confuse her with the laser? If something is going wrong, she doesn't need another thing to think about.

And - she should shoot at the range just like she would if she has to use her gun at home. I would keep working with her on the use of iron sights.

I would buy the 40c with night sights and call it good. It's a nice little gun, and a lot more comfortable than a G27, IMHO.

Get the laser. If you don't like it you could sell it for $200 on ebay. I bought one for my 9c and decided it wasn't for me and was able to sell it for $220 on ebay.

I would think another 9mm would fit in better. Just one ammo in the house, just one set up when you start reloading. 40's are over powered and over priced for the minimal differences, especially for high volume days at the range.

think about it this way: (i wish i did before my purchase) You could sell the laser if you hate it.. I would say for 150-200 easy.. so it would at that point be cheaper than the non laser model.

Edit: HA! South beat me to it..

I have the CTC lasers on my M&P9 full size and like the way that they work however when at the range I do not use them, they are not dialed in exactly but if I were awakened at night all you need to do is grip your weapon and there is the little laser pointing in the general direction that the bullet will hit even without my eyeglasses on I can see that light but forget night sights, I probably won't have my glasses nearby and put on in time to do what has to be done, so I would get the laser and if you decide later it is not for you then sell it on E-Bay!

Go to your local GS and see if they have the CT DVD. I got one free at my local. Granted they are trying to sell a product but they make a good case for using their product.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately Buds Police is now out of stock on the 40c w/CT... one day too late I suppose. It was in stock this AM when I posted. I think I'll wait for it to be in stock again.

For those folks that suggested I get another 9mm, my rational is I already have a 9mm and want another caliber. I think I have caliber envy

But on a serious note: I've shot the glock 27 (40 cal) and the M&P 40c is supposed to be more manageable. I handled the glock 27 just fine. If it turns out I hate the 40 S&W after a period of time, I can always convert to 9mm.

As said--"If you've got the money"--you might as well go with the CT set up. It's a great price that you could more than recoup on fleabay or craigslist. I have night sights (TFOs) and laser-tactical light set up on my 40c. My wife doesn't ever shoot with the laser--she's a 'purist' and wants to be able to shoot well "If the batteries die", which is smart.

The laser's nice, but of course we don't want to be reliant on it.
