Default Convert my M&P 40 to 9mm or .22?

I was curious, I have seen Glocks have conversions, new barrells etc, could I make it so my .40 (that I LOVE ) could shoot 9mm as well? barrell, magazine etc? I'm looking for an alternative to buying another guy. thanks!
Around 9mm is signifigantly cheaper for store bought ammo, 22 is just fun

Thanks!

Barrel and mags can be had to convert 40 to 9mm for your M&P.
I have not heard of a 22 version yet. I'm not even sure that the 22 mag has the same outer dimensions as the 9 / 40 mags.

Good luck

My local wally-world sells 180 gr., FMJ Federal Champion ammo for $25.47 a box of 100 (aprox. 25 cents/round). How many rounds of 9mm would you have to shoot to recup' the cost of the barrel and magazines?

Now if someone would come out with a good .22lr conversion for the M&P I'ld be all over that.

I noticed that Smith and Wesson has a MP 22 pistol that
looks pretty good.

Also good reviews on how it shoots etc.

I just wish that Smith and Wesson would have
made it here in the U.S.

Just like Ruger makes their new SR22 pistol
here in the U.S. for about 399.00 retail or
about 325.00 or maybe even lower at discount
retailers.

You can drop a factory $65 9mm barrel on your .40 and replace the mags and it will work just fine. You can do a search on here to find others that have done this.

The cost for the barrel and one mag will be $100 after shipping. If you save 3 cents per round you should recoup your costs after 3,333 rounds. If you buy two mags it will take you around 4200 rounds. If you buy a Storm Lake conversion and a couple mags it may take you well over 6,000 rounds to recoup the cost.

If you are paying more than 24 - 25 cents a round for .40 you should shop around.

Now if you just want to buy a 9mm and have another gun, that's the BEST idea by far! All costs go out the window because you are making an investment! A lifelong investment!

One other advantage to the conversion is that it will allow you to fire one if the other is not available. There have been shortages before. Being able to fire multiple cartriges from the same weapon could mean the difference between having an empty gun or a loaded one.

This was my reasoning when I bought the .40. I have 2 .45's and have a .40 and the ablity shoot 9mm from it. It is a good compromise but one that will pay for itself for awhile. I am ok with that.

I just scoped out a "shop" deal on a SIG that comes in either 22, 9mm,
40, 357 and they are adding 1 kit for about 1200 together or 2 of the other caliber kits for around $1500. very tempting. No buyers remorse here, but I am going to wait out for a 22 conversion kit for the M&P.

S&W has a kit for you Honcho!

I have one myself.

For around $300 (I paid $330) you just buy the M&P22 part.

Next, put your .40 M&P in the safe, and pull out the M&P22.

It takes .22 bullets, comes with a magazine, and feels much like the M&P40.

The best part is with this kit, you can have two people shooting at the same time!!

The M&P .22 is still a good choice if you can get .22LR ammo! Same size and feel of the .9mm,.40 and .45 full size of corse. I have the M&P .22 and the M&P .45 very happy with how they both fit and feel in my hand. It looks like the m&P .22 is made with the midsize grip panel and is not changeable.. But still a very good partner to the other full sized M&P line as it's a full sized gun itself.. Don't think you can go wrong with it. Got mine last year 2012 in July for $329 out the door.. George

If you want to save money and have a neat gun buy the M&P 22. I have a M&P 40 and shoot more 9mm than 40 S&W out of it, but have nearly as much fun shooting the M&P 22. Just my two cents.
