My NIB M&P9
Just got home with my new M&P9. SWEET! Feels great, nice fit and finish! Test fire date: 12-19-11.
Couple quick questions about this pistol. What type of sight picture works best? I have a Walther PPQ & A Caracal C both in 9mm, and with those it's the front dot ON what you want to hit, not a 6 O'clock hold.
Next one is: Can anyone post a source for the best deal on mags.
Thanks to all for the info. Here's a quick pic

I'm not planning on replacing the sights. I was wondering about the sight picture/hold on the M&P. I know when I shoot it, I'll figure it out, but was curious about what the experienced M&P folks were using.

Just center the front sight in the middle of your target. Mags are hit & miss. Some gun shops want $35-40 for them, but I found 3 for $22 each a while back and grabbed all three.

+1 on Botach for mags! Free shipping and fast service. Just got my full size mag for my 357 Sig compact but they backordered the adapter to fill the gap but let me know in advance by email it was going to happen. Great Service

Thanks again for all the info. Botach already got my order for mags!! Great price!
As soon as I can get this thing out, I'll post a report. I'm sure it's gonna do just fine. Usually when I'm out, I'm the weak link. My plan is to get this thing tested a little and practice and use it in some IDPA. And also may carry it in the winter where I can conceal it better with clothes.
One thing that really stood out was the stock 3-dot sights. It seems that the rear notch is the perfect width for the front for some fast shooting.

Congrats on the new M&P in your life
I've bought all my extra mags for my 9 & 9c from 44mag.com as they have decent pricing and reasonable shipping.
Also, my understanding is that the correct sight picture for the M&P is #3 as shown in the attached image.

Thanks for the info and graphic. If that's the case, I'm happy as it is the same as my other pistols.

The police and military get a discount ($398 includes free shipping and 3 mags). Yours only has two mags which is what is included with the civilian package.
Look at Bud's Police Supply.

I DO believe this! I have small/med hands. I put the small backstrap on, and this thing feels NICE! I should be able to get it out Friday morning at the earliest.

OK. Now I got it. Even though I'm an Army vet, I don't qualify for the military discount. I'm not active or in the reserve or guard.
I live in Lexington, about 5 miles from Bud's. I've talked to them before about the military discount and I don't qualify. Good deal for those who do, though.

The full sized mags work just fine (I tried on a rental) and then you can add this: XGrip S&W M&P Compact Magazine Adapter
Making a longer grip for range/target/practical shooting.

I shot two USPSA matches this past weekend with it in Production Division.
My match pistol has been a SIG P226, the M&P will take some practice and getting used to.

Congrats on the new M&P. I bought the 4.25" Pro model last year and I couldn't be happier. I'm around 2,000 rounds through it with some being just standard range practice but a great majority was during a Combat Focus Shooting pistol course I took; 1100 rounds in 2 days. I liked my M&P9 so much I traded my Glock 17 for an M&P45 which is my new favorite carry/competition gun.
The only problem I have ever experienced in using my M&P9 is when I'll set off the 'auto-forwarding' of the slide...that is when you insert a loaded magazine and hit the base of it at an angle, that sends the slide home without ever touching the mag release or the slide itself during a slide-lock reload. About 40 or 50% of the time my slide will release prematurely and not grab a round out of the magazine. I'm trying to diagnose whether it's me or one or two of the magazines I am currently using so I'll have to update once I get that figured. I know the easiest way to cure that is to NOT hit the mag that way

Several threads on this issue. Since mine strips a round off the fresh magazine every time I have yet to see this as a problem.
