Question Any tips to preserve rear sight position

Just received Apex DCAE kit did installation of the sear and trigger spring, was wondering about "extra parts" Found out today that kit also includes Ultimate Striker Block. I've watched youtube instructions and it is as easy as it could be, but my question is, since you required to remove rear sight is there a good way to preserve it's position ? If not how do people adjust rear sights on public ranges, where you can't have a vise... Any tips are welcome

My rear sights were off the other day when I was at the range. The gunsmith at the shop loosened the retaining screw, basically eye-balled the sights to the center, voila! Instant improvement in under 60 seconds. Maybe if you're actually removing/installing you need a vice.

#1 I used a vise at the range to adjust my sights.

You can also use a piece of masking tape to mark current position.
If you have an accurate enough ruler or measuring device, that would work also.

Make what is called a "witness mark". A line scribed on the top of your slide (very small) and a corresponding line on your sight. It can be edge to edge, center to center, or whatever else suits your fancy.

I marked with a pencil the edge of my rear sight on the side. When I put it back on and lined it with the mark it held true at the range. I had taken my rear sight adjustment tool and a socket wrench with me, just in case.

Make sure you take it off and put it back on in the right direction.
