You said range and home defense was you main interest. My recommendation is buy more ammunition and practice a lot. The way to think about self defense is that anything longer than 10 yards isn't self defense
. The stock sights work well for most situations. Practice point shooting at close distance. In a real self defense situation you won't have time to line up sights. (or, more bluntly, if you take the time to line up sights, you're in trouble). Target shooting is another story, you can spend a lot of money and it's fun, but those type sights are, in self defense situations, more of a distraction than an advantage.
