Default M&P22 or Sig Mosquito

I'm possibly wanting to trade my sig mosquito foreign m&p 22. Does anyone have experience with both of them? I really like my reverse two tone sig but it's a little picky with type of ammo.

Thoughts?

For your Sig did you try the CCI Blazer in ther bulk bricks? Mine is extremely picky and i have no probs running CCI. Same with my Walther P22. Sorry its a little off topic.

The CCI minimag work the best for me... maybe 1 ftf or fte per 100-150 rounds.

I can't speak to the sig having never owned one, but I recently purchased the m&p 22 and couldn't be happier. 500+ of CCI mini-mags and only 1 FTF.
It's a nice little shooter.
Good luck

A lot of people consider the Sig Mosquito (to put it nicely) the weakest gun in Sig Sauers line up and I don't just mean for fire power. They've improved upon it, but I still wouldn't buy one. Despite the M&P22 having different parents (Umarex) than the rest of the M&P handgun lineup, I'd buy an M&P22 with more confidence.

I had a Mosquito and though I loved the feel of the pistol but it would ony function with CCI Mini Mags. That is until it got dirty, then it was a crapshoot. I recently bought an M&P22 and can tell you it is a vastly superior pistol. It feels just as good in hand, has better build quality and is much more reliable. If you decide to get one you won't regret it.

I have a mosquitoe , somewhere. that is I sent it back to sig after it broke and would not fire or de cock.
I have not heard back from them in over a month.

I bought the M&P 22 and fitted my suppressor to it and Boy-howdy,, do it shoot.

I currently own both and love them both, The Sig gets loads of bad press, I guess I am one of the lucky ones the only time I have issues is when I run bulk ammo I have been using CCI and haven't had a lick of problems except a couple of FTF and it seems to be getting better with age...my wife liked it so much I had to but another plinker...twist my arm bought a 22-A put an red dot and thats my long range plinker.. now I own a M&P 22 seems to be a little less picky with ammo and seems a little more accurate.. long story wife likes that more so I am back with my Sig and have no regrets.. but if I was buying with what I know now I would by the M&P.... nice running gun..

I bought a Misquito when they first came out, very ammo sensitive and I could not get mine to shoot with the sights. I sold it and got a conversion kit for my P226. Now this is what I was looking for, fine sights and good reliabiltiy. I sold the conversion kit when Sig offered complete guns in 22LR. Got a deticated P226 in 22 and it filled my Sig needs. Since I have centerfire M&P's, I finally got in a 22 M&P the first week of December. It too is the the grail I sought. It's more accurate than I can shoot it and just plain fun to shoot. It as well as the Sig both fit in the same holsters as ther big brothers and are fine training guns. You will not be disappointed with the M&P22. Bob!

I finally got rid of my Sig Mosquito. It was just too ammo picky which took away the fun factor of a .22. I had it for about two frustrating years. It looked nice but reliability was just not there. So, I would advise to pass on the Sig Mosquito.

I guess it's time for me to get a new .22 pistol too...maybe a M&P22.

The Mosquito isn't made by SIG. It is made by GSG in Germany. I am a SIG fan and I would buy the M&P 22 before the GSG/SIG.

I was at the sporting goods store and saw the Sig Mosquito .22 mags for $44.99 each, No thanks!

M&P 22 mags are around $30 or less.

Although this is the S&W forum, I still will have to talk about my two Ruger 22s. An ancient RST-4 and a new 22/45; they are great and accurate shooters. In pursuit of forgiveness from the forum, I'll also say that my S&W Model 17 (no dash) is a great shootin' 22.

I have both the Mosquito & the M&P 22. The Sig is ammo sensitive. CCI Mini Mags fire with no issues. The M&P fires almost anything. There are a few failures with bulk, but the Winchester Super X HV from Sports Authority works well and is cheaper then Mini Mags.
The M&P seems more accurate and has a bigger grip.

.22 rule of thumb, if it dont want to eat feed it some minimags or other high power ammo, it will force that slide to cycle.

I don't believe Umarex makes anything, they are just an importer. The M&P22 pistol is directly imported & marketed by S&W. Of course, the M&P22 is manufactured by Walther. One huge difference between the Umarex imported guns such as the Colt 22LR Rail Gun I own, and the M&P22 is that the M&P22 is protected by S&W's lifetime service policy. Every other 22LR pistol on the market except for S&W's only have a 1 to 3 year warranty including the Walthers.

The Sig Mosquito was problematic when introduced. My local gun shop (the largest in the state) stopped selling them shortly after introduction due to the number of customer problems.
If you want a reliable 22 then go for a S&W41, Browning Buckmark or Ruger. On the higher end you have the Walther GSP and Pardini SP.

For starters, look at the weight differences between the two pistols, then ask yourself "Why does the S&W M&P weigh so much more?". Then you might wonder how that translates into external and internal design/build differences and durability among other things.

Much like the Walther PK380, the Sig Mosquito feels like a really fun gun to roll around on the rug, jump over couches and play James Bond with. Not that you want to knock around or be rough with any firearm, but it happens and some take such inadvertent rough handling better than others.

Not that all light, plastic guns are cheap and problematic--case in point, FNH's 5-seveN--that's an extremely high quality gun that's shoots the very deadly 5.7X28 round and shoots it virtually flat, with almost no recoil. Albiet, that's a very expensive handgun.

But if I was out in the field for a few days and wanted something I could count on to shoot small game to bring back to camp and feed people, I'd be S&W over the Mosquito all the way. Sig's heard all this and more and they've improved the Mosquito, but it's still not the equal of the S&W M&P22 IMO.

Plus, I think the chances of me having a gun I could keep in good working order long enough to pass onto a younger family member are much higher with the M&P22. The no nonsense lifetime warranty on the S&W, the less expensive magazines and other related gear, make it a no brainer to me.

M&P22 hands down over the Sig. I owned a Mosquito and it was just to picky on ammo. I don't want to buy a .22 pistol and not be able to shoot bulk ammo. The M&P has been nothing but reliable with any ammo I shoot! It's a no brainer.

I guess different people just have different experiences. I own both and shoot both about the same. If anything, I may shoot the Sig a little more since I despise the sights on the S&W.

FWIW, both shoot anything I throw at them. Neither has basically ever burped except for the occasional snag any handgun experiences.

I've been real happy with my M&P22. I'll be picking up an M&P 9 in a couple of weeks. I'll continue to by S&W products. American made!

I vote for the Ruger SR22. It is well made and was designed to feed about any .22LR ammo.

Mine has been completely reliable with all ammo - even the cheaper bulk pack stuff.

Except that the M&P22 is made by Walther in Germany.
The P-22 is also made by Walther, but the M&P22 is in my opinion (I've owned both) far better in quality than the P-22. I'ts more accurate, re-assembles easier and less picky about ammo.

I've never shot the sig but I can attest to the quality of the M&P22. I only shoot cheap ammo and have less than 10 FTF / FTE issues in 1000+ rounds. I love the fact that the dimensions of the gun are the same as my S&W M&P9mm and shoot them together every trip to the range. You can buy this gun with no reservations.

I have the Sig. It is a **** gun!!! DO NOT BUY ONE.
Looking at the new Ruger 22. They always work. Hate the dumb Walther 22s as well. Had them & sold them.

Buy an adapter, remove the barrel nut and install the adapter.
