If those are true S&W night sites that doesn't sound right at all. I'd make a call to Smith and let them know about that.

If you've got the Pro with night sights both the front and rear glow in the dark. At least they do on mine.
Is this the 4.25" w/NS or is it a 5" w/aftermarket sights?

If it's a brand new gun they should both glow. I'd suggest you give S&W customer service a call. They'll probably send you a mailing label and want it shipped. You might also call the LGS where you bought it and see what's going on.

I know it's frustrating but S&W will take care of the problem and shipping will be free so what do you have to lose?
Alternatively, check with the place you bought it and see if they can just swap out the front sight with a direct replacement as they should have caught the fact that they sold you a bum gun. If you purchased online then you'll definitely have to send it in.
And don't let the problem sour you on the M&P as it's a very good platform. My trigger is much lighter than my 9c but if you wanted an Apex trigger to begin with then, yes, you should have bought a regular M&P and not the Pro and then added night sights.

It does suck to have to send in your gun but from a quality control standpoint I'd want them to fix it so if it ends up torn up, scratched or broken it is them to blame and not you. The turn-around time is the suck part...and you are right, it shouldn't have to be this way when you buy something new. Sadly it does happen and I wouldn't let this turn you off to a great gun and platform. Even if you do decide to sell it because of the negative experience you've had, still send it to Smith so they can replace it and it will at least mean you'll get more of your money out of it when you decide to either sell or trade it.

thanks, im not frustrated or mad.....I know good service and not good service. I was told on the first call to give them the serial number and they would send one out. I called my wife to get the number and called back and was something different. I dont want to send the gun in to have it fixed as this is my first and only gun and its what my wife and I started to do as a hobby together, I could really care less about the night sites ot how smooth the trigger is, this is just fun for us, the pro model was the only m&p 9 that the range I shoot at had in stock and they have givin me great advise and spent alot of time with me so I felt obligated to buy from them even when one of their competeters had the non pro model on sale for $460. I paid $599.00 for my pro. I also wanted to buy American. do you see where im coming from??? and where this is going??? I still love the way it shoots and my wife shoots it very well. which is why I got it in the first place.

Since you bought it from a local shop I'd talk to them to see what they can do to help out. Perhaps if they've got another one in inventory they'd be willing to swap the slide and let S&W fix the broken one.

It dosent effect the way it shoots and I dont plan on shooting in the dark so its not that big of a deal...I have a shotgun for that. hard to miss... as far as selling it....I love the gun. I have rented every 9mm that the range has in stock, from glocks to xd, sig, you name it. this gun was perfect for me. I just dont like when 2 different csr tell you something different, it make you wonder what the policy is or if its something that each person gets to decide on their own, either way.... It is what it is.....

Feel free to handle it however you want but you paid a premium for the night sights so it would be in your interest to get it fixed by S&W at some point. There's certainly no harm in mentioning it to the gun shop next time you're in there just to see how good their customer service is

I will tell them, we go there 2 times a week and have just bought a membership. I dont really expect them to do anything. they didnt make the gun and I dont think its up to them to repair or even deal with the problem unless it would be good faith, at this point I think I have a good feel for S&W and how they treat customers and what you can expect from their quality control for better or worse. I might just buy a front site and call it a day. I cant be without the gun and im sure it will take some time to get it there, fixed and back. I was looking to buy a 40c anyways, maybe this will speed up the purchase, but I doubt it will be a M&P, as much as I like the gun its kind of the princepal of the whole thing and its a very competive market that im sure I can find something I like just as much American made or not.

Make it 10 lol.
You may have undervalued some very good advice - your local LGS should be encouraged to swap the slide from another M&P if they have one in stock, then *they* can send in the newly broken one and have it fixed.
Another approach is to call S&W again. You may get a more accomodating CSR, like your first call seems to have found.
Finally, if the sight isn't bothering you atm, use the gun for a while and send it in later, after break-in, maybe before you go on vacation or something. That way you *will* get it fixed (which you should), and maybe save a second trip to the factory if something else goes wrong.
In any case, enjoy shooting with your wife. I think I know just how you feel about that

If you call S&W again ask for Miss Sousa, not related to John Phillip Sousa, but is a fabulous CSR in ALL regards! She WILL make things right in a flash!
For what it is worth, S&W doesn't make the nite sites....they usually contract with Trijicon to do that. It might be worth a call to Trijicon.....
Just a idea...They re-lamped 2 4006's for $54.00 ea. and gave a new 13 year warranty on top of it.
Randy
PS. I have an extra front sight (nite) for a 9mm Pro that I would be happy to send to you if that would help.
