Default My first real semi the M&P40c

Well I finally found a M&P 40c. Picked it up yesterday, and took it to the range this afternoon. Besides my .22 I have always been a revolver guy so this was a change. Started with a target at 10yds, little far back when starting I guess, but not a problem keeping my 2” .38 S&W in a soda can size target. Well it looked like I shot buckshot at the bottom half of the box after my first 2 mags. Not a good feeling after just spending all my gun allowances on it. By the end of 130 rounds things were getting a little better. I found I needed to align the tops of the dots and not centers and my first shot was usually good. I needed to slow way down it was just so easy to empty those 10 rounds. I also caught my shelf flinching if I wasn’t paying attention to my trigger pull. Well maybe after a few trips to the range I will get this thing figured out.

I think I really like this pistol. I compared it to a Glock 26 and a SP9C before deciding and it just feels right in the hand. Not sure if I like the 3 dot sight, I am use to the white U with a white dot. Any sights for the M&P like the glocks or a revolver or is there a reason to try and get use to the 3 dots.

Start at 3 yards then 7 then 10 yards, align the three dots directly over the target and when pulling the trigger wait until the second stage comes in and slowly pull till the weapon fires. The M&P is much different than a revolver so it takes some getting used to, my Model 59 is what I would consider a hair trigger but the M&P is a much different animal!

At first with a semi take your time and then after you are accustomed to the way the weapon handles it will become second nature and your shots will go where you intend them to!

^^^^^ Good advice. 10-8 Performance makes a u-notch rear sight for the M&P.

Well I went back out today, had 49 rounds left in the box I needed to empty. This time I loaded the mag with only 5 shots at a time and took my time. I was still at 10 yards but I was able to keep 46 of them in an 8.5" target. I still caught myself flinching but not nearly as bad. In the beginning I was all over then I went low left then just left. By the end of the 49 rounds I even managed to put 3 in an inch bull with my last full mag. I feel much better about my shooting now. A few more trips and I may have this thing figured out.

Last night I also dry fired it a bunch, cleaned it, then a little oil. It still has the gritty feel in the beginning but it is starting to break nice, not sure if I will put the money in for the full Apex kit now. Think I will need the funds for a couple more boxes of ammo for practice.

Glad to hear from a new M&P owner getting used to their gun. When I qualified for a carry permit my M&P9 full size had never been fired and I shot low right into the 8 ring but still a good shot for the first time to shoot a weapon plus being very nervous about qualifying!

Now I shoot all my M&Ps without nervousness and except for sometimes bad trigger control am right on target within tolerance so the same will happen with practice, problem is getting to the range as often as I want.

Can't go there tomorrow which is Easter Sunday and they are both closed so I guess I'll try to watch Top Shot or something like it!
