I haven't had the time or inclination to try and wheedle any info out of the folks at the company. Too many other things going on.

If it's a slimmer M&P-derived single stack 9mm, though, reminiscent of the days when S&W 3913 variants were state-of-the-art for a single stack compact 9mm ... then I'll probably have to pick one up at some point. Like I "need" another smallish 9mm.

I'm grudgingly prepared to admit that they might be able to make a slim, plastic-framed 9 that might rival the heft, balance and controllability of the 3913 & all its variants, and if they can do so with an improved "trigger", so much the better.

Now, if it'll be the forerunner of a plastic pistol line that will eventually replace the Chiefs Special subcompacts? Again, so much the better.

Guess we'll see next week, huh?

I want to see how slim it is. I've been saving my pennies for either an LCR or a LCP but depending on the size of this thing I'll be having my LGS order one.

There's a picture of it in someone's hand as posted on another gun forum. . .

Picture of M&P Shield

Page 5, almost at the bottom of the page.

If cross-posting to another gun forum is considered 'bad manners' here I will delete the link.

Regards,

Rob

Every one of the newer single stack, sub compact, 9mm's has had teething issues. Go over to the Beretta forum and you'll read about ongoing issues with the Beretta Nano. Go over to a Ruger forum, and you'll read about ongoing issues with the LC9.

I'm an early Glock 19 Gen4 adopter. I was lucky, and had no issues. The majority of early adopters did have issues. Glock issued many replacement recoil springs, extractor, and now a new ejector to cure the Gen4 9mm ills.

I like the appearance and ergonomics implied by the M&P Shield picture. Even though I want one, I'll wait for the early adopters to discover the real world use issues that can't be discovered in the S&W product test lab.

I've had great 'luck' with new models, so if this is true, it will move to the top of my need list. My LC9 has been awesome and flawless. But true, many people seem to claim otherwise.

My LC9 has also been flawless, but it will be going in the safe when the Shield comes out. Presuming it is everything my imagination tells me it is going to be based on all of the conjecture.

3 days to go!

I have had zero issues with my Kahr CM9. Kahr doesn't seem to get much credit but they pretty much invented the single stack 9mm pocket pistol with the PM9. They realized the PM9 was too expensive for most people hence the value minded CM9. I've had the CM9 since it's release and I trust my life to it everyday.

Someone leaked the supposed specs and the M&P was quite a bit bigger and heavier. I hope this isn't the case as I was looking to possibly replace my CM9 with the "shield", only because all my other pistols are M&P's.

I wouldn't mind if the supposedly new M&P 'shield' is a bit bigger than my LC9. But then again, I wouldn't mind if it was the same size either.

I have Beretta and S&W... would also like to stay within those two brands. Not too thrilled for a Nano and the PX4 SC looks very bulky (need to look at it at the gun shop)... if the Shield is a better fit for concealed carry I rather wait for it and avoid spending on one of the other options I was looking at (LC9, PF4)...

My Ruger LC9 has been flawless for one year. My SIG p290 did have trouble out of the box but SIG fixed it and it runs like a top and is extremely accurate.

I liked the M&P when they first came out, but a ****** trigger and the infamous sear "bounce" issues killed it for me. It is sad that a person has to buy a new M&P and literally "drag" it through the Apex catalog to get a decent trigger and eliminate sear bounce. Heads should have rolled at S&W for not thoroughly seeing these grave faults as many were & still are of the belief that it is a Sigma "MK II".

This new M&P Shield is interesting but S&W may well find out that there are a lot more people whining on the Internet for more quality single stack 9mm's than there really are buyers. When push comes to shove the vast majority will buy a Kel Tec or an LC9 for the price point. In the early 2000's S&W couldn't give way five shot .44 Specials and now all we hear are Internet whiners who clamor for it to return. All 50 people.

S&W had a golden opportunity to really move in on Glock when the M&P was new and they dropped the ball. IMO it is now too late for their full sized polymer guns as the future is here and its name is Walther PPQ.

From the leaked specs, it looks like the shield will be smaller than the Glock 36 in all respects and shorter than the Glock 26 in length. Thinner in width than either Glock. Sounds like a winner to me.

I have an LC9 that shares duties with a 640Pro but the tie breaker for me is "Will the Shield conform t o pocket carry?" That's where the LC9 shines for me.

The Lc9 has been trouble free and surprising accurate with 115-124 bullets. I will watch the shield with more than casual interest as I own a M&P45c and would appreciate a backup from the same stable.

I can't wait to check out the new m&p shield, it looks like a baby m&p compact. I just might have to trade in my kahr cm9 for this sweet gun.I would love to add another smith to the collection.

Mine is on order, something I never do, but decided to go for it up front. I talked to a gentlman who shot one, and claims what he noticed for a smaller lighter type 9, how mild the recoil was verse others he has tested. Who knows when I will see it.

All I've seen are a couple of Photoshopped pics looking like a shrunken M&P 9C.

Nothing to say it isn't a 9 mm version of the BG380!
