Default 3913 Now Officially Obsolete

Meet the M&P Shield. 320 rounds thru it today. Just took it out of the box and looaded it and pulled the trigger:
100 rounds Speer lawman 115gr FMJ;
100 rounds Fed Am Eagle 115gr FMJ;
50 Rounds 115 gr FMJ WWB;
50 Rounds 115gr Winchester Silvertips;
20 Rounds Federal 115 Hydra Shoks;

Flawless in function. Accurate as a full size M&P. Very comfortable to shoot, and fits great in my medium size hand. Lighter, smaller and thinner than a 3913, with similar capacity.

3913 may you R.I.P.

Good to hear that your new Shield is performing well and that you are enjoying it. My dad is looking for a CCW pistol and if we can find a Shield it's good to know that it would be a solid choice.
As for the 3913, the design is definitely dated, but it works very well for me and continues to be a very solid pistol, so I won't be replacing mine anytime soon. If you have one that is about to become homeless I know a few other "luddites" that might be interested in an "obsolete" 3913. (posted entirely in good humor with no offense meant or taken )

I plan on getting a "Shield". I am actually hoping I like it better than my 3953 for carry....but my 3913 isn't going anywhere.

Gents,

The Shield looks to be a solid handgun. I'm glad that S&W is starting to regain their footing in the marketplace.

As for the 3913/3914, mine is NEVER going to be replaced. What a great pistol.

I'm of the opinion that one should be comfortable with multiple firearms: Revolvers, Steel autos, Polymer Autos, etc.

Good to hear that the Shield will be a good alternative to the GLOCK. Hopefully, the 380 Bodyguard will continue to grow and be tweaked.

As for me, the 3rd Gens are my 'go-to' pistols. If I was in the market for a Polymer, the M&P series would hands-down get the nod. I think they are vastly superior to the GLOCK.

Enjoy the Shield. Glad to hear that she's a good pistol.

Obsolete! Wow!

I'm glad I caught this thread. I mean, who knew? Well, trash day here is Thursday so I better get these babies in the can by Wednesday night.

From left to right, top to bottom: 3913TSW pre-rail (1999), 3913 (1996), 3913 (1992), Sold 3913 (1992)

Gee, and these were so good before they became obsolete, what a shame.

I'm looking forward to handling one, but have reservations. My 3953 is so sweet, I really don't want to give it up.

Where did you get one?

Default Shield

Ha Ha Great replies!! I am with all of the sentiment on the 3913 and i knew it would grab some attention. I have probably owned and traded a dozen of them over the 16+ years i have been playing this game and it is really a great pistol.
Truth be told, while the Shield looks to be a grand slam and i will carry it when i want to go semi auto (i also agree with the multiple gun theory-i use a 438 Bodyguard for pocket carry) i can't say that i won't grab a 3913 again if i come across a nice one in the used case.

Smith was finally able to come up with a pistol that comes close.

Enjoy all of them while we can because if Obama gets in again single stack and single shot pistols may be all we get to have.

Default Shield

I got it at one of my local dealers. I am fortunate to live within 20 minutes of 3 huge volume dealers (one the biggest dealer in New England) AND a Cabelas. They al got a batch and one of them held one for me. picked it up this morning and had the rounds thru it by 11:00 a.m at my club.

Not so fast. With as many reports as we all continue to see about FTF and light primer strikes, I would not be so quick to declare a hammer fired pistol obsolete.

Will buy your "Obsolete" S&W 3913s and 3914s.......... sell them while you still can.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Willing to pay you " pennies on the dollar" ...for all your "Obsolete" 3913/3914s which are now just C&Rs taking up space in your safes!!!!!!

..... PM before midnight for a per paid shipping label..........

LOL..... the 3913 is declared Dead Again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL last time this happened I bought 3 3913/3914s over the course of a year for $275-300, and a 3913NL anib for just $325. (hey every Smith guy needs a back-up to his back-up).

I know I'm not paying that much this time ...because they are "Obsolute" now, not just discontinued...... for not holding 15 plus rounds.

Would not mind finding one in perfect shape and at a decent fire-sale/obsolete special price! Search is on!

But I will add a Shield. I don't have a ccw at this time...

I get to see one hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday (17th or 18th of April) when my LGS will be getting some of the 9 mm ones but I want a 40 for the same reason that I have their big brothers (or sisters).

I had a pocket 9mm and traded it for a full size 45 M&P I will like to have another M&P cause all that I have are great guns just look at my signature, yes you could say I am an M&P freak and they know it at the gun store and after I left the range this afternoon they said see ya Tuesday and I said for what and they said that was when the Shield would be in the store instead of a picture of one! To which I said " of yeah I will be here hope you don't sell it before I can even look at it, but I believe they ordered a shipment of several on account of those already wanting one. This pistol seems to be the new rage in the gun stores, I might wait but if it is an M&P I do not think so!
