I paid $449 -- full MSRP -- but fair enough in Week 1. Shipping was free and there was no tax.
Later on, I think the price will settle down to $400 or just below, and based on a few of the postings, it may already be there now. S&W has done a superb job of placing this pistol at a price point that is accessible and reasonable (opinion).

I paid $449 at Cabelas. I don't think it was all that unfair considering what you pay for a M&P compact or larger. The Shield is just a smaller version. If you order from a gun broker, you have shipping and transfer fees which brings it to what the MSRP is.

Good to know... I searched all over locally to no avail... looks like ordering online is the way to go...

I called a local gun shop to see if they had one...they did, priced at $599! I went on Gun Genie, and this same gun shop had it priced at $389 (plus tax and fees.) I bought it from Gun Genie, but used a different retailer, who had it for the same price...this local shop usually has pretty good prices on most items, but I have noticed that they are insanely high on new, hot ticket items.

I hate places that do that, GKC. I recall one shop charging $450 for the LCP when it first came out (they also Sharpie-ed over the price on all the SKS's after the last election and upped the hundreds digit...don't think they ever sold one).
Through Davidson's (Gun Genie), I'm picking mine up today for $418 out the door (fees, shipping, taxes, etc.)
