Default NEW M&P SHIELD SIGHT ADJUSTMENT (FRONT ONLY IS ADJUSTABLE)

Per the S&W INSTRUCTION BOOK.

The REAR SIGHT on the SHIELD is NOT ADJUSTABLE

The Front Sight is DRIFT ADJUSTABLE to the Left or Right for WINDAGE using a BRASS drift punch. BECAUSE YOU ARE ADJUSTING THE FRONT SIGHT:

You MOVE IT in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION that you are trying to correct to the impact area on the target.

Other than the set screw, which may have red Loctite on it, I'm at a loss as to why would the rear not be adjustable.

I mean, the sight is definitely removable since S&W has replacement sights listed in their flyer for Shield accessories. Since it's removable it can obviously be "moved" as well. My guess is that the screw has red Loctite on it just like my E Series 1911 TA did, which could make it problematic for a non-armorer to loosen it.

P.S. Your highlight color doesn't work well with the light background

Ditto. Why would it not be drift adjustable? Would be interested to know.

Your choice of color is annoying to say the least. I have never had to adjust any of my M&P sights, but I don't see any problem with using just the front sight if that's the way they suggest. If the rear sight is removable, then it is adjustable as well.

Just picked up a Shield yesterday and shot about 30 rounds through it yesterday afternoon. I also owned a Ruger LC9 that I traded after owning it only 2 months. The LC9 had a magazine safety which I wasn't fond of, the trigger had an extremely long pull, and the thumb safety had to be placed in the Fire position to clear and empty the gun.

The Shield has the same trigger as other M&P's with a crisp break a distinctive reset. There is no mag safety, and best of all the thumb safety doesn't lock the slide so the gun can be cleared and emptied with the safety on.

I have only owned it one day and shot only a few rounds, but so far it looks like S&W has a winner. Very pleased with the gun and my purchase.

It's DRIFT ADJUSTABLE with the FRONT SIGHT ONLY per the S&W instructions book that came with the SHIELD. Yes my Shields rear sight is RED Loctited.

The rear sights may be cut on a tapered dovetail (it's robot installed with a pusher bar). It may be pushed into correct position and if you try to adjust it by pushing you will just loosen it, but it's capable of being removed then and a different replacement sight installed.

Thanks for the info on YELLOW color and light blue background. I've been trying to get used to the dark blue.

We're back to the old "MEN DON"T READ INSTRUCTIONS" until it just will not work or you've already broke it.

It's always the gun's fault.

The rear sight is removable. When I took my Shield in the day that I bought it to get the trigger work done, the guy swapped the sights out with his Trijicon HDs from his full size M&P9. They fit nicely.

I thought it (yellow) looked good on the dark grey background. THE BIG GORILLA said to use the NEW deal for a few days to get used to it, and I'm working on that. Originally the new colors jumped out and scared me with them them being so BOLD AND VIVID.

As noted, it should be a 1/16" - but be sure to use one of good quality. Especially if there's a drop of red Loctite involved.

On my Shield, a 1/16" is too small, and a 5/64" is too large.

The same 1/16" I used on my 1911 works on the Shield. There is about 15 degrees of play in it but it did loosen the setscrew pretty easily. In my case, I'm guessing a higher quality allen wrench would eliminate some of that free play.

While there did look to be red Loctite on the threads it broke free easier than the one on my 1911 did.

P.S. Just measured the wrench and it is .060, which is just a tad under 1/16.

Thanks for going to the effort and measuring. I'll get a better set and see if it will grab it. I appreciate the help.

I believe it's going to be,or is,the best small single stack pistol to date in a service caliber.

I put 150 rounds down range the other day and NO FTF.

I'm headed back to the range shortly for more Shield work. I may have to tap the front sight over a tad to compensate for my EYES and HOLD.

S&W looks to have a real winner with the Shield.

Great Work by the S&W Company and its WORKERS.

It doesn't even come close to a 1911.

What sort of "trigger work" is available for the Shield?

Default M&P Shield 9mm how to adjust front sight

I have tried to adjust the front sight on my M&P Shield with a drift and haven't had any luck in moving it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this with damaging the gun.

I know this is an OLD thread.....but wondering if the OP was able to get it to move?

I tried a brass drift and tack hammer...carefully mounted the slide in my vise.....

All I accomplished was I bent the drift....LOL

Thanks....yeah I saw that thread.

I was just curious if the OP or anyone who has the M&P 9 (mine is an m2.0) has been able to move the front sight without a specialty tool....manual seems to say it can be done but like I said, all I accomplished was I bent my drift...LOL

Plus -- I do not mind buying tools when they make a real difference in ease etc, though tough to know which one to sink my hard earned $ into.....

I am consistently shooting my groups to the left of center.....I am convinced I need to tweak the front sight.....though the guy at the gun shop told me yesterday to try altering my finger placement on the trigger....seems he thinks I am too far onto the tip and should be more centered on the pad... he said he can push the sight for me but cautioned that "sometimes when you push sights they loosen up".......
