Default M&P 9 accuracy

I have a M&P with factory threaded barrel and installed the APEX duty kit.
I have shot it about 150rounds. Are these guns ammo sensitive?
Most autos I have have not been. I shot some RWS orange and black box the last trip. Off a bench at 10 yds I shot a 2 inch group. Being so close I was expecting a little better. Could be the way I shoot it, I have to get one of my friends to try it. After the M&P I shot my HK45 at the same 10 yds and shot a one inch group.

I have a plane-Jane M&P 9, stock internals. Mine hasn't been ammo sensitive. It cycles everything from inexpensive Russian steel case to premium defensive ammo. 115gr, 124gr, 147 gr, in standard & +P where available, FMJ, JHP.

I don't know what this will tell you, but here it is. I shot this yesterday.

Ammo: 115gr. TulAmmo FMJ
Distance: 25ft.
Target: Roughly 3" square cardboard with a 2" diameter circular dot.

Shot standing, off hand. 17 rounds. Two groups, one at the top & one at the bottom.\

Honestly, I think you just need more trigger time with your newer M&P. Below is a target from my first range trip, at about the 200 round mark.

The more I pull the trigger, the better it gets.

A bullseye gun it is not.
However, I can rest my 9Pro over my knees (sitting) and knock down plates at 50 yds with my 124gr Precision Delta bullets over titegroup.
Many people have a "break-in" period to adjust to the trigger.

highly agreed. with my glock 23.* which i have used for 7 years* i can knock down 6" steel plates at 55 feet.

with my M&P .40c i cant. simple cant. but then again the trigger is much different and i've only had the M&P for about a week. but the more i shoot her, the better my aim becomes.

I have an ammo can with eight boxes of various 9mm ammo in it that contains three weights, both +P and regular velocity, JHP and FMJ, and four manufacturers. I take it to the range and fire a mag of each in each new 9mm I buy.

Took a second hand M&P9C to the range last week and 15 yard groups were between 2" and 6". I had my shooting partner shoot the two best loads just to double check. Her groups were within 1/4" of mine, so yes, they can be ammo sensitive.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will get more trigger time and try more ammo. I have some hope now.

I finally got a chance to go to the range with both the 9 and 9c for the first time. Blew through 200 rounds of 25 year old Norinco ??? that was "in the ammo box". There was also a box of Black Talons from 1992 but that's another story.

I did all shooting from 10yd. The 9c put holes where I aimed with tight groups every time. The 9 put nice tight groups BUT about 2 inches to the right of where I was aiming. Visual inspection shows sights to be lined correctly but...

Any thoughts?

You aren't alone. There are many discussions about this on various boards (see two examples below), and it's making me lean towards getting the M&P40 instead of the M&P9. (I'd have it now if not for unexpected car repairs.) Edited to add that for some reason it won't let me put in the link for the discussion on the M&P pistol forum. But if you go to that forum - this site blocks it's name - and search "accuracy problems" in the thread titles you should find it.

Apparently this problem started when they introduced the 9c - something to do with early unlocking of the barrel. The guys on the threads know much more than I. Not sure if this is your problem, but I wanted to let you know it MIGHT not be you.

so can this be fixed with a storm lake barrel then?

I must say I haven't been too successful with my MP9c as well. I can put all rounds on a silhouette at 25 yards, but I tend to do better than that with other pistols (including my MP9 FS)... lol

Loosen the set screw in the rear sight and tap it to the left.
