Who's Holding Out for the Shield 40?
Man, it's tough. That Shield 9 is very, very nice. Got my paws on it at my LGS - only $399 OTD. Crickey. It was spoken for, so no decision needed to be made.
But, I'm holding strong. Must resist. Don't want to die at the hands of the wife. Must resist.
I've never owned a .40 S&W handgun. I've got .45s, .357 Sigs, .38s, 9s, etc., but no .40s. The 9 would work fine. But, I like the idea of a bigger bullet coming out of my EDC, ergo the .40 S&W.
I wonder how much snappier the felt recoil will be on the 40? Matters. Getting one anyway.
Who out there is holding out for the Shield 40?

Funny man. I like it. Could I drop my Shield .40 barrel in it? How long until a .22 conversion comes out?

I may end up with both. I'm a .40 person first and foremost. But want the 9mm version of the shield first in this case. Once my wife steals that one, then I will probably be in the market for a .40 or .357 version. But really just want the 9mm for now.

The 40 would just be in addition to brother.

I'm very interested in the shield .40. Will be my first purchased small arm. I have a Taurus .38 sp. It was handed down to me. Nice piece, but not enough capacity. Agin. Very interested.

I think it will be a handful. Based on my experience with the little Glocks and Kahrs, it probably won't interest me. There is a balance or threshold between size-weight-power-recoil-recovery time. I think the Shield in .40 will be a bit beyond my own tipping point, like the 340PD (and a few other guns that come to mind). On the other hand, there is always something to be said for delivering a powerful blow - and shooting as little and as carefully as possible. Without firing one it is tough to say, but I think there will be a lot more interest in this gun in 9x19 than in .40SW.

I thought about the Shield in 40, bit with a 40c I don't see much to be gained for me personally, but it doesn't mean I won't buy one.

I'd like to say that I will get the .40 later this year, but seeing as I have two other 9mm pistols I really don't think I want to keep another type of ammunition in stock.

I'll buy and give the Shield 40 a try, whether it takes my 40c's place as my EDC, shooting it will tell, it will have to earn it's place on my hip.

I have the 9. I love it. With plus p ammo the knock down is about the same as a .40 but a lot less money to shoot. Also, I have two other 9's and a .45, so a .40 seams fun, but pointless in my case.
The shield is a great shooting gun, I really mean it. It outperforms my full size 9 M&P at close distance, or I just shoot it better. I highly recommend it.

I would shoot some smaller .40s before going for the shield. I have the 40c M&P and it can be a snappy little pistol. I can only guess at what the Shield will be like, I honestly can't see it as being enjoyable to shoot.

Even if they never offer it in .357 SIG.
I hope that a person will be able to install a Compact .357 barrel
in the .40s.
I've urged them to produce .357 versions, and also allow us non-LEOS
to buy .357s pistols once again.
You can too:

I'd be happy with the 9mm if loaded with +P, but my wife would be
thrilled to get one in .357 SIG.
We have no use the the snorty forty.

I'm holding out for the 40cal....it will be for personal protection only and doesn't have to be real pleasent to shoot. I have plenty of full size weapons for that. I'm sure it won't be pleasent on the receiving end either.

I'm holding out because my 9mms out number my 40cals by a ratio of 5 to 1 (and my duty rig is 40cal).

I'm waiting on the .40 it will make a nice addition to the .40FS & C. I think it will work out for me better than the C for summer carry.

I’m holding out for the .40, I haven’t owned a 9 in 20 years.
I read internet rumors that it would be this week, but I haven’t heard any announcement from S&W as to why they weren’t released or when they would be.

I am waiting for the 40 because just like my M&P 40C and Fullsize I can drop in a 9mm barrel just like in my original post here Why should you buy a compact M&P and then you would have both guns for the price of one plus the small cost of a new barrel instead of a whole new gun!

I have the compact with a Storm Lake barrel and even though it is twice the price of a factory barrel it is very accurate and I also have a factory barrel and even cut out a new slot for my new 40 full size M&P in its box and am thinking about doing the same with my Storm Lake barrel. I am a pack rat who has every box for all my weapons unless I bought one that came without it, and so to solve that I bought some of the blue boxes for those few used firearms that I have (2).
Great pictures by the way what most people do not know is that a 357SIG is basically a 40 millimeter that is necked down to a 9 millimeter and it has more penetration than just about anything you can buy in Tennessee our Highway Troopers use them, biggest problem is the price and availability of 357SIG ammunition!

I have many, many, rounds through the PPS .40 and the 740 Slim and find them very manageable. I will buy the .40 Sheild and look forward to it.
Ummmm good, real good!

I have the Shield 9 and with Gold Dot 124-gr +P it doesn't recoil all that bad. I've had a .40c and still have a FS .40 (for sale, by the way) and as I get older and the arthritis gets worse, I find the .40 unpleasant to shoot, which is the reason I sold the .40c and have the FS up for sale. My FS 9 is nicely complemented by my Shield, and I know either will do the job if needed.

I'm holding out for the 40. I currently load some 125 power factor loads for ICORE, out of my 610. They should be like shooting 9's in the shield. I'll throw in a few gold dots for practice with a true self defense load.

I have the Shield in 9. My order is in for the 40. I also placed an order with smith for the extended mags in both calibers...on back order. Im anticipating the 40 having a little pep. Probably much more than my 40c. Will see. Really don't have issues controlling my 40s...but more accurate with my 9s.

Me too. Usually I'm not interested in early editions of firearms, but the Shield looks good, feels good and is very controllable. Stopped in at Harry Beckwith Guns outside of Gainesville, FL this PM just to see what "must have" gun was there and, low and behold, the S&W rep was there with the new M&P Shield in 9mm... set up in the indoor range. Sweet Timing! The trigger is an improvement over the earlier M&P 9s and 40s, Full size and Compact. The rep indicated .40 cal Shields deliver to LGS in early May. One of the first delivered is mine.
I am surprised at the comments about .40 S&W having more recoil, being "Snappier", less controllable. I don't see... no... feel a difference. Probably just me but... Hey, I can't wait to find a S&W 500 at a "can't refuse" price. Now that's got "Snap".
