Default Pics of Talon Grips on my M&P Shield!

Just thought I would post some pics of my Shield with Talon Grips I just put on. They look awesome. One thing I didn't do was use the grip tape for the 8 round mag. I figured I didn't need any extra grip on the extension so I used part of the grip tape and trimmed it to size for the bottom of the 7 round mag. I am a small guy with small hands so I can just get my pinky to rest on the bottom of the mag but I didn't want it slipping off. I just got my Shield last night so I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet to see if it works but I think my pinky will stay put and not slip off.

Nice. I had the rubberized grips on my CM9 and loved them so I ordered a set for my Shield. I'll post pics later this week so people can see the difference between the granulated grips and the rubberized ones.

Very nice fit & finish! and great pics too. It's nice to see that they leave an empty space for the logo. Looking forward to seeing the rubber type in the above post. Fantastic Oh by the way Speer Golden Sabers, or Hydra Shocks?

I actually ordered a set of both. This is my first time trying Talon Grips so I wasn't sure which is better. I went with the granulated first. If it gets to be too abrasive, maybe I will switch over to the rubberized grip.

I can't make up my mind either so I'll probably do likewise and order a set of each. I'm impressed with how nice they look and the price is right.

According to an email from Talon they are getting them out ASAP at $14.99 each. Thinking about the Granulate Texture myself.

Yeah they are easy to install. Easy to take off as well. I already changed to the rubberized grip. The granulate grip is a more positive grip but the problem is it is like velcro against cotton. My t-shirt would snag on the granulate grip when I would draw my pistol. The rubberized grip isn't quite as nice in the hand but no snagging on t-shirt when drawing. So I guess the moral of the story is there is a trade-off between the grips. I figured what good is a really nice grip if you can't get the pistol out of the holster? The granulate grip is excellent if you want it for a range gun but not so good for a carry gun. BTW, going to the range with my Shield for the first time on Wednesday. Can't wait!

How much bulk does the rubber grip add? I am interested in the gripping surface, but want to keep this gun as small as possible...

Generally I've not cared for Talon grips (the look anyhow) but those actually look pretty nice. Did you have to trim them yourself or did they come made for the Shield?

They come made for the SHIELD.

If you think the GRANULAR ARE TOO GRABBY on your hand or clothing,

the Installation Directions say you can SAND the GRANULAR

GRIP stick-on panel with 120 Grit sandpaper before installation.

Sand them to what YOU think is an Acceptable grip feel.

No the rubberized grip doesn't add any bulk to the grip. I am going to stick with the rubberized. I went to the range today and it felt good and don't have to worry about clothing being snagged.

100 rounds 115g Blazer Brass
100 rounds 115g Federal Champion
15 rounds 124g +P Rem. Golden Sabers
15 rounds 125g +P CorBon High Velocity

No FTF/FTE, and no failure to go into battery. Yes, my Shield has the issue a lot of people described. It is not an issue for me. I love this gun. Accurate as heck and about the same recoil as my M&P9c. Less snappy than a CM9 and worlds better than a ****** PF9. Better trigger than a LC9. S&W has a winner with this gun no matter what others may say about a battery issue that isn't one.

I just wish I could find one to buy right now. On a few waiting lists. Not worrying about the battery issue. If it is a problem, S&W will ultimately take care of it.

They can be found on the internet if you are willing to pay shipping and transfer fees. You won't find one for less than $425 though. It is a sellers market now since they are hard to come by. I just saw some on Gunbroker and GunsAmerica.

I have this talon grips installed on my M&P40 FS for over 8 months now and it is awesome. The feel I have when I grip my gun is amazing. I don't know if there is a merit to it but I kinna feel I can control the recoil better because the gun is stuck to my hand. I modified mine and cut it so that the back straps can still be replaceable. SO now I ordered 3 more of this grip tapes to install in my other back straps. My reason for doing this is because my wife and my young daughter also shoots the gun with me when i go to the gun range. They like the smaller back-straps and I have a huge hands and finds that the biggest back-strap fits my grip well.

Here is a picture with the biggest back-strap still bare.

Pardon my ignorance as I am not familiar with Talon grips but it looks like skateboard grip tape. Is it in fact a similar material? If so does it not scratch your hand?
thanks

There are two types of the product. One is a mild sandpaper type and the other is a rubberized type. I have the latter myself but both work very well.

Love the Talon rubber grips on my shield 9 but on my first set I overlapped the ends and they kept lifting up at he backstrap so my next set I trimmed the ends off flush with each other. They work much better that way and don't seem to be lifting in that area anymore. For the price you can't beat them. IMHO.

yes, it is similar to skateboard tape. Feels funny the first time you pick it up, but it does not scratch your hand and it works very well. As mentioned above,it can be sanded if you want something less "grippy"

I like it a lot.

I have to agree with soleshtr. I put the granulated grips on my shield and like them for shooting but the are not comfortable in my crossbreed IWB as they really rub my skin up pretty good. It's hard on the holster too. I'm probably going to change them out to the rubberized ones soon.

+1 Just changed from granulate to rubber on my Shield for the same reason...IMHO the rubber is perfect on the Shield.

The granulate grips are not similar to skateboard grip tape. They ARE skateboard grip tape, cut to fit your firearm of choice. The reason I know this is because I skateboard and I watched a few installs of the grips on YouTube, and they use MOB and Jessup grip tape.

Since the grips wear out over time, I would recommend only buying the pre-cut grip once, and buying grip tape from your local skateboard shop. You can get an entire sheet (about 9"x33") for about $5. Then you can use the pre-cut grip as a stencil.

Talon grips have always looked interesting to me. I have always wondered how the gun would look AFTER removing the grips, after maybe 8 or 10 months of having them on. IF you ever wanted to remove them, would the original gun grip be a sticky, tacky mess? Has anyone ever removed them after an extended period of time? (just curious)

I had the sandpaper grips on my 9mm for about 6 months - thru the summer. Found them too abrasive for carrying, so ordered the rubber grips. Peeling the grips off slowly, most of the adhesive came off with the old grip. The part that stayed on the gun was easily removed just by rubbing with your finger and it rolled right off. Love the rubber Talon grips!

Do they stay firmly attached even after repeated cleanings? I clean with Hoppes and flush out everything with non-chlorinated brake cleaner before re-lubing.

I love these grips I have the rubberized ones in. They stick so well that I even slipped a super tight Hogue Jr grip over it at one time and the things did not budge one bit. Even with a the friction.

I got a rubber set today and put them on my Shield, I was skeptical at first but now I think it is almost a must have for Shield owners.

Installation was much easier that I was anticipating, I'm terrible with decals and little small things but this was a breeze just get it where you want it before you hit it with the blow dryer.

Though I do think the piece for the 8rd mag should be made differently as not to include sticking to the base plate but rather only going on the surface of the mag spacer. If you want to clean your mag then you will have to take it off and I'm curious how it will hold up because when I load the 8rd mag the mag spacer always slides up some and I have to push it back down to the floor plate, I will have to be more careful when loading the mag.
