Now I have to get money together to get this. But I have probably two years before I'd need the money anyway as it is likely that they will be scarce in the wild like the original was and also to give the market price a chance to equalize. But it will be something I want to try.

I am going to be all over this. As soon as one is available, I will buy !

I really like my 9mm no-safety Shield with Apex kit and Novak sights, so this is a natural progression.

I look forward to seeing one. I wonder how it will feel across the profile of the grip? For me that was always the shortfall of the shield (and the inability to change it) Might be nice if they fatten it a bit. Then again, I'm kind of in love with my M&P45c. That one would be hard to replace IMHO.

Default The is slick......

That is slicker than cat poop on a linoleum floor. It looks big enough to be comfortable to shoot and she sure handles it well. Since she's a GIRL, surely I could, too. Maybe even better.

The gun that I never thought they would build is here. Nice!

I hope it works well from the get-go.

Same with me .. The Shield has never felt like it fit my hands ..

Gips need to be fatter .. I use the large grips on my 40 Crompact .. need to see something like that !!

I've gone back and forth on purchasing a shield because of the size and how it felt in my hand. Glad I waited. Will be very curious to see how the 45 feels in my hand.

Smith may have just improved the unimprovable...

pachmyr sleeve on my shield changed everything.

I for one can't wait to try one of these. I've been on the fence about tracking down a G30S but i would prefer sticking with M&P's if possible.

I've got the Shield in 9mm and .40, and when I can get ahold of a .45, I'll grab it just to have all 3.

Just when I was set to start debating between the 9mm Shield and the new Walther PPS M2 they go and do this. Geez....

Looks really nice though. I'd like to see more vids in addition to the one by the gal from S&W. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching her...I'd just like to see the next video she makes be longer and more detailed on the M&P 45 Shield!!

Have you ever shot the XDS45? It's great, handles the recoil great.
The Shield version will likely shoot even softer

I have an XDS45. Great shooter and extremely accurate, BUT it's not one I would take to the range to shoot all day. I do think the Shield 45 will be a cut above the XDS just for the fact it will be easier to work on and I do prefer the safety.

I picked up a standard PPS when they were on sale and appeared to be dumping inventory. The trigger guard mag release wasn't an issue and I did like the fact it was ambidextrous. After much tinkering and polishing, the trigger is very decent but my shield with an apex kit w/ trigger works for me much better. Not slamming the PPS, very good gun and slightly larger. It does have an accessory rail. Accuracy between the two was on par. I installed an aftermarket single stage recoil spring and the shield now shoots lights out. They're supposed to be coming out with a single stage recoil spring for the PPS and I would expect the same results.

Given all the above, the Shield 45 is on the top of my want list.

I wonder if she is shooting actual factory loads in that video or something loaded light. I bet it kicks like a mule with combat loads.

The XDS does not, and the Shield grip is better designed and recoil is subjective anyway...I actually prefer the "kick" of the XDS45.

S&W didn't properly mark the GRIP ZONE, so people won't know how to hold the pistol.

How would the recoil be in such a small package?? I am about to buy a Shield and was thinking 9mm just to avoid having to add another ammo caliber to my shopping list...I have 5.56, 9mm, and .22LR

I am not too fond of my Nano and was looking at the Shield to replace it. Now with this new option, only wondering how easy it would be to manage...

Well now I'm pizzed. I thought my 40 Shield was the best thing since sliced bread, just did not like the caliber. I traded it for a Kahr CW45. Never would of happened if there had been a Shield 45 back then. The Kahr is great, but the Shield has a better trigger reset and it takes down easier. The recoil on the Kahr 45 is not bad, by the way. Definitely less than the 4G Shield had.

I'll buy one after the initial frenzy subsides and I can get one below $400. Looks like it's just enough bigger that it will need different holsters. I see they've put more texture on the grip. I think that change would prove popular if they did it to the 9mm and .40.

Not sure how you arrived at "half an inch wider." According to the specs it's 4/100ths of an inch wider.

I imagine he meant longer, not wider.

S&W product code 11531 and the UPC code for this same model is 022188868135. I've already contacted my LGS and they are going to try to get me one in when they become available.

I had a CS45 for a while. Sort of a PPK/S in .45ACP - about an inch thick, with a 2" or so barrel. Stainless....

I found it rather easy to shoot, even with full-power factor SD loads. The rubber grip (resembled the ball on the top of a pogo stick) was effective enough, too. Heavy as lead....

To answer some of the questions, it was accurate, and reliable. Just heavy....

The .40 Shield is quite comfortable, and should be even better in .45ACP. The extra size might be an issue for some, but I can (and have) concealed a full-sized 1911 in an OWB without difficulty. Factory SD loads out of the Shield40 are seriously snappy, but mostly just "different" than a .45. I don't have any experience with the .45 Shield (of course), but I do have an Shield 40, M&P40FS and M&P40C, and an M&P9C. You know what the 9mm feels like. The .40's definitely are stiffer, but again, as a 1911 guy, nothing too terrible.

If you think you'll need a second shot, the 9mm will be better for most shooters. OTOH, with a .45 (or a .40), should you actually get a hit on the first shot, you won't need the follow-up .

Regards,

I'll wait a year or two till they get all the bugs out and see how many complain about the pistol on this site before thinking about one.
That's what I did getting my wife a Shield 9mm rather then a 40 S&W.
